I don't know the 688, but with the 788 you get six simulteneous inputs. That's the big other advantage over most of the the 8-track machines (the first being true 24 bit).
It's also quite small and light weight, especially at a rehearsal where you'd probably no be using the CDRW. So it's easy...
The Tascam 788 is a stand alone hard-disk based digital workstation. It is the only 8-track I know of that is TRUE 24 bit. I have all of the original packaging and documentation as well as the matching Tascam external CDRW burner with all of the approriate cables.
I have used this unit for all...
Thanks for the input. One suggestion that was made to me elewhere was to lower the pickup on the bass side. I'm trying that now and I'll post another one later today.
I liked it a lot. The guitars are strong as are the vocals. The mix is good. I couldn't help wonder what I would have thought about the drums if you hadn't commented on the loop before I heard it.
I'm trying a bunch of experiments with my Tascam 788 to see if I can get some raw tracks that might be high enough sound quality to mix in a studio for a new CD.
I've never been happy with direct recording from an amp, but the Roland JC 90 has a stereo line out so I thought I'd give it a shot...
Thanks. I really do wish I was a better engineer. Oh well.
This is actually our first 6 string. I have it strung with heavy strings and tuned down to an open C.
I've been playing around with this for the last couple days. I'm thinking of sending it out as part of my seasons greeting so I'd really appreciate some feedback from some of the great ears around here. Thanks.

My comments are pretty much the same as what you've already heard. Terrific piece of music. THe mandolin needs to be more out front which really probably means that the guitar needs to be smaller. The bass also need to move up in the mix more. Really fun piece.
Thanks all. It's been quite an adventure and to hear the low end under control with no tweaking at all was just the ultimate reward.
I'll post some more clips later including some blues and in the mean time here are the photos for those of you asking.
Sure. Here's a look at a page that I just finished a few minutes ago that has several photos of one of the first two completed.

I listen much more than I reply. There is some randomness to what I listen to, although there are a few names I come back to regularly.
I only reply if I feel like I either have something constructive to add or I was really impressed by the music. I don't respond if it's music that I either...
