Mmmm, maybe a mixer has been fired for producing, but generally speaking, most artists and producers are open to suggestions and interpretations from the mixer. Sure, the mixer may be asked to undo it, if the producer or the artist do not like it. But they are not going to be fired point blank. If the mixer is continually doing things they don't like, he may get let go as well, but that is because the mixer just isn't right for the project. It isn't because he muted to the triangle part for a few bars.
I am not trying to attack you Bryan. I just think you are being a little overbearing.
Eric I understand your point. and I in no wise feel attacked. I have real skin Been cussed ut by the biggest and the best. Doubt anyone could wrangle me.
Now let me shed some light on the highlighted statement.
Many an Artist and Producer. Your failure in your statement is that this Producer said what he wanted up front. So when you do what you want to do and it is against the producers wishes........Then what I should do lay down an accept what you did even though I as the producer told you up front what I wanted.
Look back through my Post you quoted and you will see on phrase I typed. It said if you have an idea you ask or present it before implementing it.
SO in the case oif this contest I up front told the mixers what i wnated. And when they stepped out side of what I wanted they violated my request.
If you go to the Dealership and pick out a Light Green Jag XJ-8 with a silver moon roof and the guy gives you one with a green moon roof are you gonna pay for it?? No I should think not unless you like people walking over you. No, you will remind the guy what you asked for, present him in wiritng the contract for the car order you presented and tell him to get it right else he does not get your money.
Granted no money was exhanged in these efforts, but I had a specific request. I have the right to demand that I get what i asked for or roll over and Play Dead.
In my Family I am the nicer one. My wife was pissed that people altered her song.
Was the song Busy. i dont think so. It had a lot of elements, but far from Busy.
If you stripped out the percussion what is there??
Drums, Vocals, bass, Key and Horns. That is so Far from busy. But then every one is entitled to their opinion. I really do appreciate others opinions. When we produce, for the most part we involve a lot of other people in the process. we just "manage" the ideas.
I accpet your belief that Iw as overbearing, but Rules are Rules. Next time a cop gets hit by someone in a crowd and they beat the person up I'll remember that thing about overbearing. Next time a Rapper comes in my Studio and threatens my life I'll remember that thing about overbearing. Heck next time somone walks in my studio smelling like a weed factory I'll remember that thing about overbearing. Rules are Rules. That is how we Govern ourselves. lets get rid of all the laws that we consider overbearing, like parking on one side of the street instead of both sides of the street. (The city my studio is located in) and other seemingly overbearing rules.
Please dont take the sarcasm too seriously. I am only driving home a point. PMC 6 was my contest, I defined the parameters and thats that.
If they felt the rules overbearing they could have just ignored the contest. 10 people did ignore this one. Will I ever be offended? No. I got where i am at today by learning the rules and playing by the rules.
