I picked the 23rd cuz after that I am in totally indisposable. I actually have to do my judging tonight 9wednesday)

Judges the FTP port is closed any entry not in there will not be considered. I purposely did the contest this way to elimnate a person having to scour the thread. We all are over 13 and FTP has been around since I started surfing the web (before they called it the web) Back in 1981 when I was 11 Years old :) Sorry to be so stern :)

Entries can be dloaded from here. :)

I have taken the liberty to upload the released mix. This is the full length unedited un-mastered Mix.

YOu can find it in the original download directory.

A lot of people had struggles with where the hornsa should have been placed :)

Where they are in this mix is the right place. :)

Of course your entry will be judged on overall mix quality not Artist Vision.

Artists/Producers Vision is an additional category I added that is not biased based on technical quality of your mix :)

Blue Bear was kind enuff to establish Guidelines and I think it is a good ide to follow them.

Vanbas, you should really turn down those horns.

Did you mean to leave them out?

Houston we have a problem. someone upladed an entry titled Broken Vessel but they failed to put their forum user name on the entry

Sorry but this contest was to leave all things unaltered someone edited my track to their taste. and that means they are automatically disqualified....

Edit = remove or add to the track.

Mix creativity is fine but down right deletion of parts or changing original data is out of the question.

He edited them cuz they show up in the back half of the song.

I'll try to get them done tonight, but if I don't, I won't have time to finish on the 23rd. Since it's just going to be me and you (giles) judging, why don't you send me your finished results, and I'll post them when I'm done.

In the future, you need to allow more time for judging. The timeframe has been getting shorter and shorter as these contest continue.

Wow, I'm listening to the mixes... I've already heard four mixes which violated the rules. :)

Ok can someone clarify this for me so I don't have to worry about mine ?

What do you consider an edit ? Doubling a part ? Offseting it ? Adding a delay or reverb ?

Don't ask me - I'm not judging this time around.

This topic of mixers discretion has been a hot topic on a few other boards.

For this contest, I believe the job of the mixer is to do what the producer says. The producer in this case is Giles.
On the other hand, if I were to hire a hot mix engineer to mix one of my songs, I’d be expecting him to bring his art to the table. I don’t think that point applies for this contest.

For the sake of the mixes I heard, let’s hope they go undetected.

My definition could be way off base (wouldn't THAT be a surprise? lol) but I read the mixing rules as to mix the tracks as if I were mixing a live act...
The individual parts come at you and you try to balance them and make them coexist... But you don't pick up an extra cowbell, guitar, sax etc. or make one of the players stop performing...

.02

OK Well I just want to make sure that mine is not an issue. If it is I'd appreciate being told by Bryan or Raw-Tracks (or you to Cary if mine is one of the mixes you though was breaking a rule).

The reason I'm concerned now is not because I added or modified any tracks, but I did some different things to place that pulse track in the mix. I didn't think it was that extreme but after listening to it in the car this morning I'm having second thoughts.

Anyway please don't take my questions the wrong way. As I said I just want to make sure.

Vestast,

Bryan PM'd me this morning that you and Vanabas are disqualified. I haven't listened to the mixes yet, so I can't really comment. Personally, I would like to see Bryan ease up a bit on this.

Well I'm at a loss on this one. I did edit out the tom roll at the begining of the tune as I thought of it as a count in rather than part of the song. I also added a fade out at the end as I didn't really think that would be breaking any rules.

Bryan - Please let me know why I have been disqualified. You can PM me if you like.

Thanks for the info Eric.

Dave

Yikes.

In my opinion, I think you should just get points off in the 'mix elements' category.

We're all here to learn, right? How the heck is anyone going to learn if they can't even see where they end up in the categories? I’d be pretty upset to find out I just spent many hours on someone else’s song and then find out I won’t even get a critique.

Bryan – Bro, don’t you think you’re being a bit strict on this? What is the REAL goal here. I think you’ve accomplished it well. :) It’s just my opinion. All respect to whatever you decide.
