8th. Not too bad. I only spent an hour or so on this. I think the not-so-good quality of the tracks just really got to me.

For only working on it for 1 hour and coming in 8th...the tracks couldnt have been as horrible as you describe! :D

Now:
As requested.........here is the individual judges scoring sheets

Hehe.

The drums just drove me nuts. That "tom mic"...

I started to like the song towards the end of it, though.

Bwahahaha! 7th out of 18? Damn.. that's great! I never expected to come that far. Allthough it seems that only one of the judges figured my mix to be pretty good (Thanx Bdrum) and thus kicked me to the 7th place. Pretty happy with that though!

Let's see how far I come with #8 :D. Going to get some monitor speakers (el-cheapo, but better than what I have now) this weekend to crank up the low an high end points I got to start with.

7th... Hehehe...

Thanks Mark for hosting:)

Thanks, Judges for putting the time in and lending us your ears. These contests are a great way to work on stuff you never would have had the chance too.

Xstatic,,,,,,,, CONGRATS ^5s

I didnt think my mix was as good as alot of the entries that finished below me, but I guess we are own worst critics. I learn from all of the people that participate in these contest, so my hat goes off to all of you.

Peace Eddie

No offense to Mark, but the drums were recorded very poorly, IMO. Part of mic placement takes into account the pickup pattern as to minimize leakage. If it weren't for the track names, it would have been hard to tell exactly where these mics were placed.

The less of the tracks that I used, the better the sound was, but since we needed to use all the tracks, the drum sound suffered due to phase cancellation.

Well Im glad I havent been slammed with some bad rep points :D Congrats Xstatic your mix stood out! Thanks Mark and NL for hosting, you guys will get your chance to judge me because Im mixing for PMC #8, By the way Its a nice song, ;)

As I heard it here, Mix on and Mix well ;)

Help me get out of the basement of the PMC's

Any suggestions on my last mix would be great.

I know I had way to much FX's on the vocals. I sent the wrong file and it was to late for me to upload the correct mix.

Thanks!

Hey Man, just listened to your mix.

Ok, I’m not trying to be a wise guy, but I think if you try and answer this question and understand, you’ll be able to improve your mixes.

Why did the think that that amount of reverb sounded good when you first applied it?

I think you’re having problems hearing. Do you listen to reference material through your system? When you get honed in on how your monitors and reference material sound, then you will be able to make good decisions on your mixes – as long as you can hear the difference. Make ear training a way of life. Always try to identify what your hearing when you hear it. What makes a dull guitar sound dull? Learn to identify what frequencies make things sound harsh.

Listening to your mix – the vocal reverb was excessive. The guitars were in the background. Those were the big issues.

Congrats to all contestants and judges!

PMC7 is over.Long live PMC8!!! :D

Thanks a lot guys. Sorry I haven't been here to reply. I have been off doing a long and grueling 10 day show. I just put in 200+ hours in 10 days mixing 45+ acts with an average of 8 soundchecks and 8 sets per day at the Sundance Film Festival.

I guess we are our own worst critics. I found it pretty difficult to mix this song. I guess I am just used to the constant overmicing and then muting when necessary at my place. I am also used to a big drum sound. I found quickly (at least for me) that this song had to be based around the guitars and vocals since they were what I thought were the strongest clearest tracks. I decided to go with a more "vintage" drums with a little more "modern" guitar and vocal sound. I look forward to taking another run at PMC 8:)

Oh man.

I missed the Sundance Festival. You should have let me come down and mix with you Xstatic. Heh just kidding i would probably just get in the way of something like that.

Good job on the mix though.

Ill see you on MC#8 then.
