Public Mix Contest #7

I know what you're getting at caryindy. The first public mix thing I did I bagged the streo acoustic tracks in favour of one down the pipe. I think the objective is to be able to compare apples to apples though. We probably don't want that ugly spectre "grey area" creeping into this and making it all madness.

my 2 cents for what it's worth

I look at these mixing constest this way: Who ever is putting up the tracks is the producer. The tracks have been selected, now mix them. I do agree tho' that muting certain tracks is part of the mixing unless the producer says no.

If just stating my observations to normal mixing jobs that i get.

Dc - you're right. the producer is in charge. I've always thought and agreed with this. I'm only noticing that we are here to have fun. More than half the guys here would like the freedom to 'work their magic' on these 'contests'. I'm not saying we need to change any rules - I just think it would be nice to have a set of tracks that would allow the mixers the freedom to play around. I supose if the tracks weren't so near and dear to the person putting them up, it would be easier to let go. I can understand that.

why not have an A and B mix. Mix A is the tracks as are... B is the auto-tuned, re-sampled, enhanced tracks, three seperate judges, who havent listened to the "A" mix judge them.

I just want to let you guys know that I will be posting my judges sheet soon in about an hour or so, I hope that you guys wont be giving me a whole bunch of BAD reputation points  :D :D I have a few ties on my sheet :o but I do have one clear winner! Congrat's But you will all have to wait.

Damn... half an hour to go still... the 27th has already almost ended over here ;).

Lets guess...

No wait... I don't want to sway the judges.

There was one that stood out to me

Couple surprises in there - I'm curious to know what Tukkis used for playback of the contest tracks.

Anyway, I just want to thank Markoholic, the Judges, and the contestants - these contests have been (and hopefullt will continue to be) a lot of fun! :D

Yeah i was thinking the same thing as i was doing the overalls....but it was a challenging mix...thanks once again NL5 for graciously hosting this pmc7!..my hats off to ya.

The scores are pretty meaningless without being able to see how the individual mix elements were scored. Could we get a breakdown of the mixes from each of the judges as we did in the other contests?

8th. Not too bad. I only spent an hour or so on this. I think the not-so-good quality of the tracks just really got to me.
