When I first started me it was me and a partna both wearing headphones. Then it was the closet in ab room. Next up was a crackhead built iso booth. Finally bumped into a cat that has a studio in a converted garage. He has layered up sheetrock, doubled doors, and a second booth way towards the back for extreme needs.
Headphones and the right typa mic being the cheapest route... Building a iso booth with doubled up sheetrock, doubled up vaccum sealed glass windows, and a truck load of Aurlex soundproofing materials being the most expensive.
I think the SM58's are the most popular mics when it comes to recording in a noisy enviroment. Cop that and some big ole ear covering headphones and get as far away from the source of the noises as you can. Have the mic facing you and you should be facing the noise. That way the mic gets more vocals than noise.
You can also try a closet. Probably will make things sound boxy but better than noisy maybe. Carpet on the walls can slightly kill some of the box sound.
