You guys ROCK! Thanks! Im no expert but i like to share what little i do know! Frederic, I'll contact you soon. ( like your work space!) I built my own 2 bay racks, 2 track and stereo equipment racks out of wood. If anybody wants plans, let me know and I'll draw some up and shoot them to Fredric. You can make the 2 bay a 1 bay EZ! See pics.

Damn... Wow, that's all I can say... Other than the fact that my rack has corner trim peices lieing next to it, I think you've got met beat.... by a long shot -- equipmentwise and constructionwise.

Looks like good work man!

Man, I know exactly what you are talking about. I had to move out of state unexpectedly 2 1/2 years ago. STILL haven't had time to rebuild  But I keep pluggin away at it. Sooner or later it'll be done. Shit Jerya, I'm 60 yrs old and been trying to get a studio built since the 80's. I've had at least 10 versions in rentals, and in my own home finally. No sooner than I finished my little bedroom studio WHAM! Life throws you a curve. But hang in there. Just think of how you would do it now once you went through the hassle once already. Frankly, mine is still a one room/ bedroom studio, upstairs. I'm in a location where there is little work, especially for a studio, But mine is for fun...er  fun.....damn.....somewhere along the line I forgot why I'm trying to build the damn thing :D Oh well. Tell ya the truth, I spend a great deal of time at my other interests. Like keeping my significant other happy :p Honey do's ya know? ;) Well, thats about all I wanted to say. I/m sure everything will work out for you. Don't give up the dream either damnit. Just know there's people out here with that same feeling. But it will pass. I guar-on-tee you :D Do you play music? I assume you do. Shit, haven't picked up my guitar in months. The "studio" is a fucking disaster  Anyway, good luck, and don't give up. I'll get pissed

Hey,

It's cool, sorry to hear about you possibly having to move, I know how much it sucks. I think I've moved a total of four times since 1999 (Falmouth ME, to N. Yarmouth ME, to Worcester MA, to Cumberland ME, to Milford ME). All times I've had to take apart my studio and sell off some of the stuff I couldn't afford to move (or have moved). It definitely sucks to have to tear down and rebuild stuff so often or so soon after you've finished construction.

I guess I'm just trying to say I feel your pain (or at least what you've told us so far).

Jason

made up my mind (or what's left of it), i'll pack it up and take it with me if i go. may go to the huntsville alabama area. i should know in about 2/3 weeks.thanks for the support!

for a beginner electronics person it is NOT easy. and some people dont even know what a circuit board is, much less a pre-traced one. so let me modify my statement.

DIY stuff...todays topic...computer iso cabinet

Well, time to bump this thread :D Hello everyone. Well, its been a little over 2 years since I moved, the studio being the last on the priority list of shit to do. First was the shop..of course. Can't build anything without the shop. Then Winter stuff. Then honey do's :D and finally, the studio. Actually, I've had my console in the room for the whole time, but its been a total disaster, and still is.

But I finally got a few projects on the way to being finished, so then I can go on to the actual room. First was finishing up the console, which is what this post is about. Since I've became a member here, a lot of shit has happened, and priorities have changed, drasticly. Age, jobs, health, money, time and family have all taken their toll on my dream. I started this dream in the 80's, and have had at least 10 incarnations of my dream. Folks, this is the LAST one. I can't put another dime or too much more time into this. What it is now, is a place to enjoy listening to music, doing a little recording, some CAD work, and its my office too. I came to the conclusion this is solely for my own enjoyment, so I don't have to please anyone but myself. No isolation, just some treatment, and the room the way I want it.
Which is why there are elements that only "I" will like. Well, on with the show.

Here is the plan, the console as it is now, and the point of the post. Some pics of the console belly cabinet, which houses two computers, the patch bays, an amp, various cable chases and the digital audio/midi interfaces to the computers. Actually, my studio is a hybrid of analog and digital, having two synched Tascam MSR-16's and a Tascam 42b mastering machine, with a Studiomaster 20/8/2 mixer, as the core of the Analog side, and a couple of Tascam TDM-1000 digital mixers and a Lexicon Core 32 digital interface with a
PM-90 daughtercard with is a Lexicon computer card for reverb/fx. I have a bunch of other stuff, but thats not what this is about.

folks, I'm a DIY type guy. I love to build stuff, and I've been tinkering and modifying this console for over 10 years. There are lots of things to still do to it before finishing. But I've got most of them in various stages of being done. The hardest, was the ISOLATION boxes for the computers. Thats what this post is about.

I actually built the main box about 6 years ago. At the time, I didn't have time to completely finish it, so it sat under the console with NO iso for the computers. Then one day last week, I listened in the quiet dark to how loud these stinking computers really are. DAMN! That was it, I tore the cabinet out and hauled it down to the shop. There, I took an old piece of black melamine, and added an extention box on the back to completely enclose the computers. I've ordered 6 12v fans, three for intake, three for exhaust. For now, I've just finished lineing the two cases with 1/2" 703, and cutting in 4 isolation/vibration dampener pads for each computer, through the 703. I tested the weight last night and they work great. NO vibration to the exterior case. The case has two intake fans with (2) 180 degree air plenums, that will push air into the cavities, and a seperate exhaust fan plenum that will bleed off the exhaust from both power supply fans. The entry and exhaust ports to the plenums are through holes drilled through the bottom of the case under the plenums. Anyway, here are some pics showing what I'm doing.

In the next few weeks, I'll show all the other little and big DIY projects for my studio that are built, but not installed yet. Like the tape machine fixtures, speaker soffet frames, and various other things. Damn this stuff takes time, which I have so little of. No wonder it has taken so long to do this. Well, here goes...This will take 2 or three posts to show whats already built, and then the belly iso box. Bear with me. Afterall, this is the DIY thread......right? :D
These first few are a couple of the plans and the beginning elements...legs, platform, more to follow. This is also a test for my server links. Some of you have seen my console pics and plans a few times, but this is the final time. I'll be posting LOTS of DIYer pics of my studio soon. The next post will show some plans/pics of the computer box etc.

Here is the beginning construction. The main box was built YEARS ago. :p I added another box the width of the 2 center computer bays, and lined them in 703. Now I've got to build the plenum boxes and ducts. There is a solid MDF black Melamine back and a VERY COOL rack doors that are in progress as well. Later on those.
