Accoustic Amps

Well before the wife got home I decided to plug it in. WOW! I don't know what they did but they did it right. This thing sounds great. I played at low volume for a while and goofed with the features. Everything about this rig seems really solid and well built. Then I cranked it up and it shined wonderfully. No break-up, no distortion, and lots of power. What really got me was the phase switch. I had it up so loud at one point, all it would do was howl if I let the strings have their way. I went and bumped the "phase" switch, and presto! No feedback! What the hell is that!?! It can't be like a phase switch for a mic can it? Bizarre! Also has a mute button-handy feature. I guess I'm really impressed so far for a $500 amp. We'll see how it holds up tonight. We have a gig as well this weekend down in the "big city". Nice job SWR! Which BTW is made by DUH! Fender!

Nope. But I called SWR to ask some questions and their number took me direct to Fender USA. Their guy informed me that Fender bought SWR some time ago. The design is all SWR but made by Fender in their plant.

Yep, that's a phase reversal switch just like on a mic preamp. Advanced acoustic guitar pickup systems have them now too, which is a big help in reducing on stage feedback. I'm overjoyed that you are happy with it. It's one thing to recommend a bunch of acceptable products to do a given job, but when you actually go out on a limb and say, "buy this thing- it rocks!", it makes you feel good that you didn't talk someone into buying something that they will hate. I've plugged into most of the mainstream acoustic amps from Crate to Trace Elliot, Fender, et al., as well as Fishman loudbox, Genz-Benz, and a bunch of others. My best results have still been with SWR and a Fender PD250 Passport. Hell, if I was Fender and owned SWR, I'd probably just put "Fender Strawberry Blonde" on it. Hope it continues to amaze.-Richie

I just consider acoustic amps as mini PA's anyways.
Back when I was playing we just plugged into the PA,but I don't think there were many if any acoustic amps back then.

My friend has a Fender Passport PA and even though it looks cheap and cheesey,it actually sounds pretty good.

Late to the party but the SB was a good choice.
while I don't play acoustic live myself ... a friend does and he uses a SB and it sounds great.
As for the mic thing ..... on live gigging ... trying to mic an acoustic to where the audience can really hear it is a pain in the ass. When it works great then it is the best (like for recording) but if the volume needed gets just a bit too high or any sort of bad room acoustics and you end up fighting with the thing all nite trying to get it up without feedback.
Glad you're happy with it and I'm sure you still will be after gigging with it.
