Thanks Chess - I pretty much figured that the actual "quality" of the mics in question was not the issue so much as the specific application.

I'll definitely check out that Shure model for my next live mike purchase - and in the meantime, look into the C1 a bit more extensively.

Unless I missed it, I can't believe no one has mentioned the AT 4033..

Great for Vocals, Great for Acoustic, Great For Overhead applications......

I vote for the AT 4033!

Well, Joe - you seem to have missed my point - I'm not interested in an overhead mic - I don't record drums...

And you must have missed that I also said it's good for vocals and acoustic guitar BEFORE I said anything about overhead applications... ;)

Good Luck.

An MC-012 with a LOMO head is very cool. One of my favorite vocal mics MC-319. I'm a big Octava fan.

Griffinator--you can buy the V67 online at Marsmusic.com for $129 plus shipping. I tried one over the weekend and thought it was sweet sounding and a sweet deal. (see my V67 post)

Although I got very nice stuff out of the Octava 012 on a vocal performance, I haven't used it for long, so in my mind its still not a proven first choice for that application. Once I have used a mic over and over for some time, I get a truer picture of its capabilities. What I am saying is that if you primarily want a condenser for vocals, I'd go with a LD just because its a safe bet.

If you're going to consider the C-1, then go with a C-3! Also, you may want to consider looking around for a GT AM-62...a few sites are selling them real cheap!

I think lavoz is right for under $400, try out the Studio Projects C3.
It's multi-pattern, and sounds even better than the excellent sounding C1 as
the C3 reveals a bit more vocal detail.

If you can wait... Guitar Center will have the new Grove Tube 66 in sometime in the near future...they quoted me a price of just under $500. It could be well worth to come up with another c-note. Maybe Harvey could chime in on this one... Still, if you go with a C-3, I don't think you'll be doing yourself a disservice.
