Okay...so I understand and trust Beck's advice regarding holding the Tentelometer in the right hand, but why then does the manual show this picture in the manual in the calibration section?
I checked the Tentelometer calibration again to be sure. The probes are smooth and clean, I even set the meter on a flat surface on its side to make sure that it was sitting perpendicular to the surface. Even tried to emulate the speed that the tape travels through the probes. All this gave cause for a little adjustment to the meter calibration, but I'm convinced at this point that the problems I am having with getting the right tensions on my 58 are not related to my Tentelometer or my technique unless somebody sees otherwise.

That way is ok too as long as you're pulling rather than letting the weight fall. I described the other way because it helps to visualize the direction the tape is moving in PLAY mode.
If there is a variation in readings between holding in the left or holding it in the right, then calibrate with the tentelometer in the left hand for PLAY and FFWD, and then recalibrate as shown in the picture to measure REW.
Cory, are you getting the recommended tensions for the tentelometer method from the Tentel manual or from the 58 manual?
