I posted a couple weeks ago asking about the Rode NTK. Well I got one, and it seems pretty good. I compared it to a TLM103 on vocals, acoustic fingerpicking, and acoustic strumming, and picked the NTK every time on the vocals and fingerpicking. It's full, smooth, and just plain sounds good. At first, I picked the TLM on strumming, it seemed more up front, but after awhile, I realized that the NTK was really showing the whole picture more as it really is, and I just don't think I was used to that!

Anyway, I'm no authority, just thought I'd let you all know.

NTK

Cool. So is it as good as the Pro Rec review says it is?

The power supply. I suppose all of the phantom power comes from it?

How does that work? Mic > XLR > power supply > XLR > mixer.

What would happen if you had phantom power on at the mixer and on this power supply. Would that damage the power supply or mic?

Yeah I'm a newbie.

Just wondering if this mic is as good as they say it is.....

and if I should get the NT 1000 or NTK.

Well, I think it's pretty darn good, especially since it's pretty cheap. As far as the phantom power thing, I'm a bit of a moron technically, but I just don't turn on the phantom power when using a tube mic. Whether it would do any damage if you did, I don't know. I think it's as good as Prorec says. I haven't heard the NT1000 to compare, so I can't help you there.

the new NTK ranks right up there with the best mics i have ever had a chance to use. i tested the NTK against a few of my mics about a month and a half ago, and posted my results on the 1680 forum at VS Planet. the NTK compares very favorably to the U87ai, and is a far richer mic than my tlm103s for most applications. it does have a smoother low-mid than the NT1000, but the 1000 is also a very fine new mic, especially compared to all the generic chinese mics out there in that price range.
