Being genuine here David, I wish you the best of luck with it.

Regardless of what's been said, there are plenty of people here who will gladly help out where they can.

Just keep the head down and try not to let it beat you. ;)

I'd consider that to be counter productive, but hey....Different strokes, right?

...done!

"This message is hidden because RAMI is on your ignore list."

WOW! I'm flattered. Though I know you're full of shit and can see everything I post.

Don't hide, I've only been speaking the truth. Let it set you free. :D

...thanks, but the software that is going to work best for me will undoubtedly be similar to garageband in it's straightforward simplicity. or, to put it another way, any software that is so complex that it requires a tutorial will be crucial to avoid.

David, this is not a bias statement if damn near the whole room is saying reaper and giving the same opinion on it were not trying to coax you into some digital nightmare so we can all send back private messages in laughter. We are giving this advice unanimously. Im just saying David, look i know your a smart guy hell you have more exp in years than me, you asked for a DAW that has the workflow that is "along the lines" of Garageband, friend Im telling you its Reaper. Im not pissin down your back and Im not lying to ya simple as that. If I gave you any other DAW I would be lying to you and the whole room would let you know. I took a 2nd and 3rd and 4th at Logic look until I figured it was the DAW for me (not saying its the DAW for you) But software being as complex as it is you not gonna take it for a test run on the first go and be comfortable. Pro Tools is my #2 and I HATED THAT DAMN THING! I thought who in the WORLD voted this digital software nightmare #1 they have to be freakin idiots, but I kept at it and in a few weeks I started to get it. I have been using Pro Tools for over 6 years and I am STILL learning new things everyday. And Im not saying this to discourage a learning curve I am stating this cause sometimes it takes a little time to adjust to a new thing. Reaper is a GREAT! No nonsense, straightforward DAW I will put my career on it. All im saying is get some video tutorials groove3.com has some as well and just watch a few their not long cause Reaper is not that hard if you have 2-3 hrs in your day to watch the videos I promise you will know everything you need to know bout reaper. David even Garageband has tutorials every software does its to help you not discourage you.

(RAMI is pro knowledge and despise's a layman nothing against you personally. He is a tough cookie but he means well David could learn alot from him one day)

Nice of you to say, man. I really WAS trying to help for a few pages actually. Then, I just didn't give a shit once I realized he doesn't want any help. He just wanted a blankey and a pacifier.

...if you go back and read through this thread, you will realize that is what i have been doing.

oh sorry, I couldnt be bothered to read all of it as there is a lot!

But I hope I didnt make it sound like I had it simple, because it definitely wasn't. There have been many hurdles that I've either solved or had to work around, and there will be more hurdles to come, but that's what makes it exciting, and interesting for me.
In what you would say is an ideal world for making a song would be where you could spend £100 and make a professional song in one day, but that'd be boring? In my opinion, it is the pride and the satisfaction over a finished product which makes everything worth it.

Also, what about in a few years time when you will (hopefully by then) be recording at will, you will have learnt from everything you have done in the past couple of years making you a better sound engineer/technician whatever you want to call it.

Hehe...The thing is, I take none of this seriously. When I said the internet has become one big squishy vagina with an over-sensitive bladder, it's because people are so scared to offend, that it takes them 3 paragraphs to beat around the bush and say what can be said in 2 sentences.

I talk to people the way I would talk to a buddy that I'm trying to talk some sense into. Who talks to their friends the way "internet etiquette" dictates? If you think your buddy is being a lazy-ass, or is just generally not using common sense, you tell him "Dude, you're being a stubborn idiot, man. Pull your socks up and do what you have to do", rather than the overly-polite, hypocritical babble that most people get, which doesn't even help them anyway.

I also realize that at a certain point, I just start being a smart-ass. But, at that point, I'm just screwing around and stopped caring about whether I can help the person I'm talking to.

You get all that, Dave? :D

...i actually have no desire to be a sound engineer/technician. never have, in fact.

evidently, that is a distinction that cannot be made clear enough.

my passion lies with songwriting and arranging.

and, as a singer/songwriter, when the time comes to make a professsional/commercial recording, i want to turn the wheel over to someone who has spent a lifetime devoted to the craft of professional recording, mixing and mastering, as i have with playing the guitar and writing songs.

...sorry but, with all due respect, he comes off like an infant.

no, sorry I worded it badly, I meant so that you can become just generally better at it so that you can focus more on the music

...i'm pretty sure that i have responded to the advice on reaper, quite a few times.

there seems to be a consensus here that reaper is the right software for me.

it was the first software i tried but, again, that was two years ago, when i first bought the imac and the tascam us-1800 and first tried to figure out how to record on a computer.

at that time, i found it daunting, but probably because the whole concept of computer recording was so completely new to me.

i still have the manual, and i have every intention of taking another look at reaper.

in the end, i will probably choose between reaper, studio one and record.

as well, i'm still awaiting a response from cubase, to see if they intend to create software along these lines because, as i mentioned a few times previously, that is the software my recording engineer uses.
