Captainkeys....What do you mean this post isn't for real, of course it is......

And what's all this talk about Fart Plugins....where have all the poorists...er...purists gone these days.....

Pick up the Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle DVD.
In the special features there is a lot of info on how they recorded the fart/bathroom scene.
 
Just do a search for "What is the best mic for rap vocals" and you should come up with a shit load of mic's you can use. :D
 
PZMs. Great for farts and other bathroom noises.You can put 'em anywhere in the room and they pick up great. The best thing is though, it's a mic you'd never use for vocals, so you'd never have to get it near your face :D :D
 
i used to ocassionally demo the profit 2000 with a fart sample back in '83 at a store in nashvegas...

Just add a match to the source and really "warm" up that recording.

I think using a hyper cardoid LDC would be a mistake. To make it truley impressive I would use a omni LDC. You have to capture the ambiance of the room! You may want to rent a smaller gymnasium for the session. You may also want to spritz the performers cheeks with water or a slightly heavier fluid to add texture. It's all in what your going for, but as with alot of things I feel the room will make the recording. To me nothing say's "WOW! Now thats a fart!" like a huge natural reverb tail puncutated by well defined reflections.

*for some reason I can't get the image of Captain Kirk and the crew stumbling around and holding onto chairs after being hit by a photon torpedo, or a huge fart in this case.*

dont worry ive got plenty of real world experience on this one.

my favorite technique is to use two small diaphragm condensers about 2 and a half feet away from the anus. Keep them about 1 to 2 feet apart depending on how wide you want your anus to sound (some people like it really wide here). Then just angle the mics in so both are pointing right between the chode and anus. This keeps the attack from being sharp an peircing an gives you more control of the dynamic and tone of the rip. This point usually has a little hair on it that can dampin it a little so i recommend shaving.

If done correctly, no EQ or compression is needed to make your recording since. But just remember that the structure, dynamics and the performance of the person ripping is much more important than the quality of the recording.

I'm working on a plug-in that will model different diet-influences on the fart.

For example, you could use a cabbage-induced fart and make it sound more mexican food-like.








Yes, there will be a knob marked "saturate". Full saturation also known as "wet". :eek:

Have to agree. If the performer is not into it, it shows. You have to capture that energy and emotion! I find the first take is usually the best. Farters are like drummers, they don't have to hit the note but stamina and energy are a must.
I know farters that work out every day just to keep thier licks up :eek:
