Haha thanks Rami. I still gotta listen to the others. I'm particularly interested in WhiteStrat's. He's a good guitarologist.

Ok, maybe that one won't take the prize. :)
Nah it's fine. There's any number of lyrical combinations that would be better than the actual lyrics.

My wife heard me playing with it from the other room the other day and came in and said "is that Hallelujah?!?!?"

How is it everyone but me knows this song??? Good on her for giving you motivation. :)

Many of the covers I do are her idea. I didn't know this song either. I knew of it, but had never actually sat and listened to it or paid any attention to the little tidbits of it I've ever heard before. I personally don't see what all the fuss is about.

Okay...here's my stab at it. And like I said, even though this in the singing forum, I don't sing (except when I'm alone!). So, as always, my guitar is my voice:

Hey that's good dude. I like the harmonizing parts at the end and how your sustain goes into harmonic feedback. What was your guitar setup for the lead lines?

Thanks man, but this was tracked late at night. The acoustic and the mandolin were "real" but everything else--including the lead--was sims. I'm guessing whatever harmonic feedback I got with a sim must come from my tendency to use my thumb for pinch harmonics.

The lead patch was one I built for my 80's rock star sound--pretty much just a sim version of the sound I have dialed in my Carvin Legacy. A natrually dark tube amp, 7's across the board (including gain), pushed a bit with an OD pedal, and a healthy touch of delay.

Are we still doing this nonsense?

I don't mean to say you're predictable--but this is exactly what I heard in my head when you said you'd have a go at it. I mean that in a good way--you've got your own signature sound, and it kills. This works way better than I think folks would expect.

Is Leonard Cohen still alive? Yep, just checked--he is. He needs to hear your version. Bet he'd love it!

That's pretty amazing that you can get those harmonics out of a sim. I never could, but then I'm not half the player you are. Nice work.

Haha thanks man. Last thing I need is to get sued.

Getting sued by Leonard Cohen would be almost the ultimate irony !

I'd hate to have it revealed in court that I did his song better than he ever has and all past and future royalties should go to me. That could be demoralizing for him.

Lenny released an album in 2012. He's alive & kicking because he discovered his manager had ripped him off whiile he was studying in a monatary for a couple of years. He's touring & recording to generate some income to retire on.
He'd LOVE all the versions in the thread - humour is almost always present in his songs (hidden more oftenb than not).

That's what I was thinking--he'd probably get a real kick out of this thread.

(Maybe I'll tell him about it tonight when I see him for dinner at Taco Bell.)

I saw him at Glastonbury a couple of years ago (might have been 2008).

Nope! No winner yet. The competition is still open to let everyone have a go. Thanks for playing Greg. That rendition was just what we needed here LOL.
