Well after seein all your great studios I think I will have to admit defeat and give up as I am never going to have the money or the space to do things properly. All I have is a SM57 and a SP B1 Mics soon to be linked to a DMP3 Pre amp which connects to a Audiophile 2496 sound card and I use CEP2 for software.This is all I can afford but it looks like it will never be enough sniff sniff.Never mind I tried...

Never give up!!!
I started with a tascam 8 track cassette and a Shure 58. I recorded a demo for my old garage band with it. Then I recorded in a real studio and caught the bug. I'm not gonna say that you can do all the stuff the big boys do, but you can be creative. Give it time and collect things slowly. You don't always have to go high dollar and the new thing NOW. I still use ADATS which I have received some glaring eyes about. When you buy something new ....incorperate it with the old....don't just pitch stuff aside.....unless of course nothing works together....like my ADATS and windows 2000. I now have a descent studio. It takes time...when you just do it for a hobby..IT TAKES TIME. Oh yeah...Have fun with it.

Boy does it TAKE TIME. 20 years in my case.
Hindsight is 20/20 too. Damn, when I caught this bug, it was like the Birdflu.....damn near killed me. 
Ha! Still ain't over it. But I wouldn't trade it for anything...its TOO MUCH FUN!!

Aint that the truth.I started 5 years ago,with a gateway computer and a Bob Barker(gateway) microphone. After much buying and pitching gear,i finaly can say that i have a desent living room...ha ha you thought i was going to say desent studio,lol,....... you got the wrong room buddy.

I've had the priviledge to record on everything from SSL/Neve/Amek to Soundcraft/Mackie/Tascam/Yamaha to ... well ... stuff that music stores couldn't give away if they taped a $100 bill to the box.
And it is true, that the higher quality gear, sounds better than the lesser quality gear. And quality as you know has a price tag.
You'll probably find that most of us who have decent gear and decent recording spaces accumulated both over time. Rarely do you find someone in their early 20's with 10, 20, 50, 100 grand to blow on a reall, full size recording facility (gear and structure).
Over the years I've listened to many, many recordings. Many of them were produced by people who hired me to "fix" them. I've heard embarrassingly awful recordings done on million dollar equipment, and I've heard amazing, warm, lush recordings done on what most would consider absolute crap as far as equipment goes.
Equipment is part of the equasion ... talent, feel and art is the other part. *I* believe the latter is more important - by far.

Well thanks guys for all the re assurance and encouragement I shall continue my long journey in the world or recording then for as you say it is a lot of fun but also full of headaches too.The most frustrating thing is being a bit clueless but I guess that only gets better over time and through experience.If I did have an expensive studio I would not have a clue what to do with it any way so its better that I start off small.At the end of the day I only want to record myself playing Didgeridoo so I dont need loads of tracks or fancy trickery as I do very little over dubbing etc and do most of all my stuff live, so I reckon when I get my head round levels and mic placement and stuff I will get fairly decent results with what I have for now I hope. I have been playing Didj for about 8 years now and I teach and perform on the festival circuit in the summer and the biggest crowd I play to is about 2000 and they always ask me when I am going to record a cd as they love my music which is nice to be told.Therefore I am hoping to get my setup and knowledge good enough to have my cd done by the end of March.The only thing I might do due to my lack of experience in mastering the final recordings is take my finished tracks to a studio to be tweaked to the optimum before I get them pressed and printed.Anyway thanks again and just for a laugh I will post a picture of my mini studio in a few days when I get my camera back. Sorry to waffle on but I love talkin about this kinda stuff.
