Have you thought about the distortion beign on the mic itself?
Maybe your band reaharsal is way too loud.

it says:
"Is it just that we're louder than the mics max spl? I tested them with drums alone and still the same...I thought you could use them for ohs? "

I'm going to try some more mic placement....Possibly directly over the drums. Anyone want to buy some ecm8000s? :)

I'm still betting you have some gain staging problems, but if you wanna sell them, I'll buy them.

hey harvey, I don't really want to sell them....just kiddin'

Thanks for responding though...Gain staging problems as in too much gain or just the audio buddy has problems?

My drummer hits pretty hard and the ECM's will light the clip lights on my mixer occasionally with the mic gain fully counter-clockwise. I bet an in-line pad on the mics would fix you right up.

Too much gain, the mics are overloading something further down the chain, either the audio buddy, or whatever the audio buddy is feeding.

so i tried the recording process again, this time giving up the whole record our band from 2 mics in the band. Instead we went for an sm58 on the kick, sm58 on the snare and the 2 behringer directly over the drums (keep in mind these are just demos...we'll go to a real studio when we're going to do this)

WOW. They sound awesome. I tried to back off the gain a bit.....this time I ran them through the mixer with the other mics and rolled off a lot of lows and it seemed to help. Anyway thanks everyone....if anyone wants to hear it i'll up an mp3.
