Wow guys. This is a really great thread.
Nah, 70sbaby and I just got off to a rocky start; it'll all work out.

It just struck me as weird that I was doing this stuff before most of the people here were even born. Not that I could do it better than a lot of people here, just the length of time I've been doing this stuff.

For example, chessrock (and I don't mean this to sound like bragging):

I had already designed the JBL "F" series of speakers, designed the Acoustic Amps, written a hit song for the Byrds, was signed to RCA as an artist, designed sound systems for various clubs, left before one of my old groups changed their name to The Association, worked at Morley, consulted for Yamaha, and toured with Sweetwater, all before 1970 - the year you were born!!

That's what's so weird to me.

Chessrock, you weren't even born when I was doing all this shit (and a lot more), so how the hell can you judge me, or how the hell can I relate to you?

You are a wise man Harvey Gerst! If you need any gear while in the area, I'm 15 minutes from Pasadena(sounds like a song title!) and will getcha whatever you need, as an offer of gratuity for the knowledge you have passed along over the years!

Reunion

I started in music around 1960 and by 1962 I was already playing live music, so I was ready when the British Invasion bombarded every corner of America, but I have never heard of "Sweetwater", what was your Hit back then?
(you must have had a hit to have thousands cheering).

I'm new to this Forum and obviously there are people here who have been working with Home Studios for years. Not me, I registered to learn because I want to build my own PC-based Home Studio. I have been working with Midi for the last 3 years and now I am confident about my Sequences, all I need
is to add Vocals and guitars to the Midi Sequences, then Mix & Master & write to CD.

My first Question is: Which Microphone should I buy? (yes, I'll ask in the proper forum).

thanks,
Josie

We actually had two songs that were getting decent airplay, "Crystal Spider" and "What's Wrong", plus we had a killer girl singer that Rolling Stone Magazine rated as one of the top 3 female rock singers (with Janis Joplin and Grace Slick being #1 and 2).

As far as what mic, the question is what do you want to use it for?

Harvey your upcoming get together sounds great.

Feel free to let us know (or PM me) when you'll be around in L.A., per our last conversation.

Chris

Great thread Harvey, now I know more about you and understand where you get all the experience you have.
Enjoy your reunion!!!.

Nope, no tours that I know of, but Danny Hutton still has my Beefeaters single that I gave him when they were thinking of doing "Please Let Me Love You".

I went to many Byrds gigs around L.A., but never in any official band capacity.

well anytime you want to come to north carolina, I'll roll out a carpet for ya....it wont be the red one. it could be some green shag carpet. thats all i can afford.. i'll treat you to a bbq dinner though...as long as you promise to critique all my mixes.

HARVEY. need i say more? im relatively new to the board, but i've read nearly all your posts, and i can tell the impact you've had here. rock out in LA man. tonight i drink to harvey gerst.

Yeah, Harvey, only been here for a little while, but I've really appreciated your help and knowledge thus far. Thanks for recommending the MXL603's, they rock!

Well, my four planned food stops in L.A. are Canter's Deli on Fairfax, Tito's Tacos off Sepulveda, Norm's on La Cienega, and Pink's on La Brea.

WHAT? No Rosco's Chicken and Waffles????

That is a must in my book ;) ...that and In'n'out. :D :D

Enjoy man,
Cuzme

Congrats Harvey, hope you have fun with your old band. If you guys record anything, please post, I'd love to hear it.

Yeah Harvey, if you’re ever in the Atlanta area let me know, I always have a few cold beers ready to be enjoyed. Or spiced rum, or tequila, or rye, or …. :D

Y'all need some Rosco's Chicken and Waffles for sure. That stuff is nirvana.

I have minidisc recordings of hangs, as I find audio pictures to be even more enjoyable than photos. They make an old radio story vibe in playback, except it's real life, my life, memories. I have a crappy stereo mic, and my minidisc died, but I would like to replace the minidisc recorder (my camera) and get back to documenting some of my time, while I still remember a few jokes. I thought about this a lot at my Rosco's hang - old friends, late night, kick ass chicken and waffles, maple syrup and red rooster hot sauce. Is there a favorite minidisc stereo mic amongst those left in this thread? If I was just going to use it as an aural camera then it's not a big deal, but I wish to record gigs and what not. This is not a pressing issue since I won't be replacing my MD recorder until Christmas or shortly before. Much love,
Cuzme

Yo' Harv'-Master Gee, gimme' a holla if you're ever in NYC!
We can go check out Electric Lady & Sony!

Two guys with the biggest microphones ;) in the world decided to have a contest on who has the larger unit. So they decide to go have this competition on the Golden Gate Bridge...

It comes time for the showdown and at last they reach the middle of the bridge, unzip their mic pouches and dangle their microphones over the side.

The first gentleman promptly states, "God Damn this water's cold!"
To which the second replies, "Yeah, and it's deep too!"

Peace,
Cuzme
