Does this mean i can find some adat edit software and use this $40 usb sound card that i got at walmart and start dumping adat tracks in to it. It has an optical input and output.

This is because of the +4 dbu on the xt20? or..... was the tracks more than likely clipping when recorded on the xt-20 to begin with? They are clipping on the adat itself.
