    Working with drum loops

Hey there. Sounds like we are in the same boat. I too play straight up rock-n-roll, and NEED realistic sounding drums in my music. I use a program called Fruity Loops for all of my drum patterns. I can create as many patterns as I want for each song. It is easy to use and with professional...

    Rockin in Detroit

Track, Thaanks for commenting on compression. It is a new tool for me. And I will admit I am VERY green with this technique. But so far, I like the result. I am not getting any distortion when I listen on multiple systems. Flash, Thanks for listening.... Not sure why you are only hearing...

Looking for nitpicks.... 2nd mix attempt

Chibi, IMHO I would say try bringing it down from 0:00 to 0:45. and from 1:26 to 2:06. The volume on the lead at the end with the singing is cool Just fade it out a little smoother at the end. Steven

    Rockin in Detroit

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to take a serious listen to the vocals on that 2nd song (21 Grams) and see what I can to fix the problems. I tried something new on these songs. After I was finished with my final mixes I saved them as stereo wave files. then opened up a new project and...

Looking for nitpicks.... 2nd mix attempt

Well, like I said before. The main thing that is standing out to me is the lead guitar in the left speaker. It is coming through WAY above the mix. Keep it panned where it is at. Just bring the volume down a little on that guitar. Now that I am listening to it again.... I am thinking I would...

    New song... kinda rock...metal...something

I like the song. That being said. I would try to bring the vocals out by a little EQing. I lik ethe guitars and the drums sound cool too.... Good fruity skills! Steven

Looking for nitpicks.... 2nd mix attempt

hey there. Just gave it a listen. I hear some static in the VERY Beginning. before the music starts.. Delete that noise. And it Sounds to me like the lead guitar in the left speaker needs to come down in the mix. Try blending it with the mix a little more. Fix that and you have yourself a...

    Rockin in Detroit

Greetings from the Motor City! I have just finished mixing a few new songs, and it is time to get some REAL feedback from my peers. It's been about 6 months since I last posted any songs here. I have been trying to apply a lot of the information from the forums here to my recording and my...

    Normalizing and Mixing

I dont know if there is a specific answer to your question. Maybe the pro's do have some formula that they use. As for me. I just go with what sounds good. EVERY song is different, and should be mixed that way. I usually start with the drums. then add in the bass, then guitars and then vocals...

    Please Help Me!

    Basic Compression?

Tony, Thanks for all the good info on this topic. I have a Behringer compressor and I also use the Waves Compressor in Cakewalk. The most important thing I took from that article is to STOP using the pre-defined settings. Now that I understand a little more about compression, I wont be afraid...

    Recording a demo

Here is another thought too. Your title of this thread mentioned a "Demo" If you are really recording a Demo. Make it a good one and Track seperately. I know it might be out of your comfort zone. But trust me, Its much better than recording everybody at once. I think you will find that you...

    Recording a demo

I would suggest browsing the Musicians Friend website for equipment. You can choose for yourself based on your needs/Money. Pick a few models YOU like/can afford. Then come back here and do a search on those models. Read up on all the specs. As far as recording something onto a tape deck from...

Mixing loud vocals in a soft song

Hey there. Here is my 2 cents. Heavy compression might even out some levels for you. But my first thought is to add something to the parts of the song you feel sound weak. Like maybe an extra guitar or two to fill things up when/where the big vocals are missing. Steven

Best Drum DXI or VST program Bar-none

I use the Drumkit from Hell samples as well. The samples are awesome and far better quality than I could get in my small home studio. As far as Programs go, I use Fruity Loops. The program is VERY simple to use and does everything I need it to. I record mainly rock music. So the drums need to...

FL studio playlist mix to sonar 2 xl freak out

Hey there. When you say "Forever and a day" What exactly do you mean? I import stuff from fruity into cakewalk all the time with no problems. In fruity, I export my fruity song as a wave file. Then in cakewalk, I import audio and grab that wave file I made in fruity. It works great for me. I...

    Epiphone and Squier

I play an Epiphone Les Paul, and I LOVE it! Go to the music store and play some guitars. I dont get into the whole "Name brand" shit. 2 things to keep in mind when getting a new guitar. How does it play? and - How does it sound?
