    Help me with this mix!

Hey all. I'm working on my band's demo and am trying to get a base mix down for a general idea of how I'm going to mix the other songs. The album I want to pseudo-reference is Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence by Glassjaw. Pretty Lush is pretty much the defining song for the mix...

New live recording from *gasp* my band!

So, my old band decided to reform with a bit of a new lineup and a new sound. So far I'm liking it, but am not sure what other people are going to think. The style varies from song to song and the most recent one we've finished is one I wrote. Being into sludge/doom metal along with a lot of...

    Indie Rock!

This is a band I have recorded before. They liked the sound of the first album I recorded for them, so they came back and now want to record an 8-song EP with me. We are mostly done aside from mixing and vocals. Here's a song called "The Other Other Sex." Let me know what you think so far...

Milmea Cass, I've got my wheels on you.

Does anyone around here like Karate? Their singer (whose name escapes) me writes very strangely. Here's one of my favorite songs from them. Milmea Cass I've got my wheels on you, so narrow and weak why don't you tell me the truth, if you can. Kick out my spokes and send me sprawled on the...

Stifled creativity. Inspiration. I feel like dying.

So, I'm pretty fresh out of college. I'm in a well paying 9 to 5 job ($25/hr.). This is really my first dive into the normal schedule working world. I have been working at this particular job for a month and a half now. Tonight, I attempted to write some music, as I hadn't had a chance to do any...

    First day of tracking!

Just wondering if I could get some thoughts on the drum sound so far. Guitar is a scratch track. http://www.myspace.com/drivebydesire Sorry about the streaming quality. Thanks!

    Why I Love Ibanez

Because! $200 for a GiO that has better tone than my Gibson SG! That's amazing! Maybe it's a fluke, but I doubt it! I love Ibanez so much. Period. Discuss. Edit: Oh yeah, and an RX170 that has lasted about 5 years, an RG320DX that has lasted 4, combined cost around $500. Amazing. AMAZING.

Peavey Triple X (XXX or whatever) schematics/picture of internals! Help!!! PLEASE!!!!

Okay, here's the embarassing deal. Awhile back, my XXX head met an unfortunate accident involving a Ford Explorer lodging it under its rear differential. Amazingly enough, it survived, tubes and all. However, it suffered damage predominantly to the front, bending the chassis as well as the front...

Low budget metallic room treatment. Help!!

Hello everyone! I am currently in the process of semi-treating a 10'x15' metallic room with a concrete wall in the back. My plan of action is as follows. 4 8'x4' absorbers positioned diagonal to the wall 4" out on the front two sides, and cornered 6" out on the back two sides. Bass traps in the...

    Working out and drums.

Well, I have decided that I am going to take the plunge and start dedicating most of my free time to drums. Right now I've got a 4 hour practice schedule going. 2 hours of snare/rudiments, etc., an hour of double bass, and an hour on the whole kit. However, I have a fairly important (to me)...

The John Longstreth one hand snare roll.

Has anyone heard this before? Better yet, has anyone heard of this drummer before? The man's a machine! If you want to hear the one hand snare roll, check out the song Lethal Manipulation (The Bonecrusher Chronicles) by Origin. Just, amazing/amazing drumming. Any idea on how he does it?!

Mmm, finally have a decent pre.

Just started a/b-ing a Focusrite ISA 428 with my Spirit E12 and there is a huge difference with pieces of drums and vocals in particular. So warm even though it's not tube. Anyone had some experience with this pre? I'm curious to know what other people think about it. I'm loving it so far, and...

    More unfinished post-rock crap

Well, I got my drums back and got my Gibson all fixed up so that means more writing! http://www.myspace.com/1000talons It's not finished in terms of instrumentals, but in terms of structure it is complete (finally). Don't mind the end section. I am awful at double bass and drums in general. This...

    New Gibson finish!

I just got finished with two linseed coats on my poor Gibson SG. I'm going to be getting all gold hardware and it will be beautiful and royal! PICTURES! WEE!!!!!!!

Boring, droning, jazzy first verse of a post-rock song

Yeah, a lot of threads lately. I'm really curious to see what you guys have to say about this song so far. I'm not a good drummer, and the only drummer I would trust on this type of project is in Florida right now, so take it easy. Some of the guitar parts are going to be re-recorded, but this...
