    mixing my two piece band

I don't really do much panning. The two overheads over the drums are at hard right and left, all close miked drums are in the center. I recorded a direct synth track and an amped synth track and they don't really sound too good panned separetely. I think I'm just going to have to turn the down...

    mixing my two piece band

thanks for the compliment. that's the only finished song so far. it was the easiest to mix because we didn't do any overdubs. anyhow, what i've been doing is boosting the kick around 80-100hx and 1000hz. sometimes that's not enough though and if i boost 1000hz too much, the snare bleed starts...

    mixing my two piece band

I should also specify that the main problem I'm having is the low end from the synth, drowning out the sound of the kick and toms. Although the kick won't come back out unless I boost the midrange instead of the lows around 80-100hz and then the tone is pretty poor. The tone of the synth also is...

    mixing my two piece band

I'm in a synth/drums two piece. We play very loud in a style similar to Lightning Bolt (http://www.myspace.com/laserbeast). I am pretty new at recording, although I'm trying to learn everything I possibly can. Over the last few months, we recorded a few tracks into my Aardvark q10 using adobe...

    time offset issues

Ok, I'm using adobe audition with my aardvark q10 to do some live recordings of my two-piece band. I've got 2 Oktava mk012 on drum overheads, sm57s on snare and two toms, shure beta52 on kick, an sm57 miking a speaker cab and a direct line coming from the synth. Everything has been going great...

    bottom snare miking

i had the wires tightened so much that the snare sound was somewhat choked. it was still a problem.

    bottom snare miking

i love the way my snare sounds when i point an sn57 straight up on the edge of the bottom snare head. my problem, when i hit the kick, it rattles the snare wires. for evey kick hit, i get a very loud rattle from the snare mic. anyone know any tricks to tackle this?

    Ahead Drumsticks

The plastic shreds quickly. I broke one of these pretty easily. They don't feel nice in your hands like a wood stick does. I used to break several sticks in an hour, then I switched to pro mark japanese white oak sticks and they lasted me a few sessions. Now a pair will last one session if I'm...

    taking apart a dw5000 pedal

I've got a dw 5000 double pedal that's pretty old and has a lot of worn parts and a 4000 double pedal that is not in the best condition. I was thinking about taking both apart to combine the best parts of each into one pedal. I know it sounds like a half assed attempt to not buy a new pedal...

    increasing kick projection

yeah, i actually already have a a shure beta52, a berhinger mixer and some other amps laying around. i was gonna try a few things to see if i could do it without the trouble of miking the kick first. i changed the resonant head to an eq1 (which i already had laying around) and tried tuning both...

    increasing kick projection

which two heavy heads would you suggest?

    increasing kick projection

I have a dw 4000 pedal. I'm not crazy about it but it's alright. I'm using plastic beaters but I'll probably try a wooden one, I've got one laying around. Also, how does one go about cutting a nice, clean hole in a bass head? I've never done this.

Drums on Fall out Boys song.

I'm going to have to disagree with the statement that if a band is good, they will become popular, if they "suck" they will not become popular. There are plenty of amazing artists writing inovative and creative music who are gaining little recognition from it. And there is plenty of over-done...

    increasing kick projection

    ah, i made a typo. it's 18x22 (depth x diameter).

    increasing kick projection

Maybe I need to clarify more. I don't play in a conventional band. My band consists of a guy playing a juno60 synth connected to two full stack bass amps and me on drums. We play very loud, using volume as a device to make up for the obvious lack of musical layers. And there is a ton of thumping...

    increasing kick projection

It's an 18x20 8 ply maple drum. It's tuned fairly tight. Not super tight but not very low either.

    increasing kick projection

Right now I've got an evans eq3 clear on batter and a remo one ply clear on resonant (I'm still not familiar with the remo head names). I think it sounds great and I'm really happy with the tone but projection seems to be lacking. During a jam session today, someone noted how they could hardly...

    GC blowing out Oktava

by making the top end more "natural" is being brought out more or less than before? this is a darker mic as it is. i hear taking out the disk makes it even darker from some people and i hear that it brings out the high end and makes it more crisp and clear from others.

    GC blowing out Oktava

Yep, in general guitar center is full of idiots who don't know what they're talking about and don't know jack shit about their inventory. Things are often damaged, not in original condition or have missing pieced to boot. On labor day the mk319's were on sale for $60 so I thought I'd try one...

    GC blowing out Oktava

I'm not denying the possibility that my mk319 is chinese. But the russian manual with individual frequency chart (partialy hand written) with a hand written serial number, individual date stamp ending on 03(did they even have knock offs in 03?), hand stamped "OTK-B" and being hand signed seemed...
