    mixing my two piece band

I'm in a synth/drums two piece. We play very loud in a style similar to Lightning Bolt (http://www.myspace.com/laserbeast). I am pretty new at recording, although I'm trying to learn everything I possibly can. Over the last few months, we recorded a few tracks into my Aardvark q10 using adobe...

    time offset issues

Ok, I'm using adobe audition with my aardvark q10 to do some live recordings of my two-piece band. I've got 2 Oktava mk012 on drum overheads, sm57s on snare and two toms, shure beta52 on kick, an sm57 miking a speaker cab and a direct line coming from the synth. Everything has been going great...

    bottom snare miking

i love the way my snare sounds when i point an sn57 straight up on the edge of the bottom snare head. my problem, when i hit the kick, it rattles the snare wires. for evey kick hit, i get a very loud rattle from the snare mic. anyone know any tricks to tackle this?

    taking apart a dw5000 pedal

I've got a dw 5000 double pedal that's pretty old and has a lot of worn parts and a 4000 double pedal that is not in the best condition. I was thinking about taking both apart to combine the best parts of each into one pedal. I know it sounds like a half assed attempt to not buy a new pedal...

    increasing kick projection

Right now I've got an evans eq3 clear on batter and a remo one ply clear on resonant (I'm still not familiar with the remo head names). I think it sounds great and I'm really happy with the tone but projection seems to be lacking. During a jam session today, someone noted how they could hardly...

    vintage ludwig drums

I am considering trying to piece together a vintage maple ludwig set. I would like some advice and comments on different lines of drums ludwig put out in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I've come across some ludwig drums described as "super classic modular" and they seem to be a pretty good deal. They...

    bringing out my old vistalites

when i was 13 years old, my dad bought me my first set. it was a used EIGHT PEICE solid black ludwig vistalite set. since then i've been through a few crappy sets, pearl export, sonor force 2001 and now i think i'm ready to bring the vistalites back. i've actually sold all the vistalites expect...

suggestions for getting a new snare

I'm, in the market for a new snare. I wan't something loud as hell with ring and overtones galore and nice body tuned to a medium-high pitch. It seems like a trend to try to drown a drums tone with die cast hoops and muffling rings and whatnot. But I want my snare to bite you in the ass with a...

    upgrading my kit

Right now I have a Sonor Force 2001 kit. It's done me well through the years with plenty of gigs, bumps, scratches and head stands. I think it's time to upgrade though. This kit has always sounded good to me in our studio practice space but I don't have that now and I was suprised by how bad it...

cheap mixer with decent built in preamps

I'm going to be recording my little experimental band that mainly consists of a juno 60 and drums. I've got some decent mics (a few sm57s, beta52, shure pg mics for toms and a pair of mxl 603s on the way for overheads). I'm running these through an m-audio omni interface into adobe audition...

    recording a two piece

I'm in this little experimental punk band (think along the lines of the band Lightning Bolt). We consist of only a drummer (me), a guy on a juno60 and many bass amps. We sometimes do vocals too. Basically there is an obvious lack of layers in our music and we use overwhelming volume to make up...

    snare micing techniques

A good snare sound is important to me. I know a lot of it depends on the snare and the tuning but I wanted to know what techniques one could use to get a loud open snap and ring sound and possibly what mics to use. Here is where you can find an mp3 from the band Hella...

    oktava 319s as drum overheads

Oktava's site says they're great as drum overheads but I haven't heard much about that anywhere else. I hear they have somewhat of a lower sound which probably wouldn't be great for cymbals. Do any of you have experience using these? I have mics for all the other drums in the kit so I don't need...

i need some help with drum mics

So I decided to start getting into home recording again. I've made a lot of crappy 4 track recordings in the past of my youth with crappy mics and I didn't really realize how important the mics were. Anyhow, right now I have an Oktava 219 condenser. I bought this because I saw a local engineer...

    drum mic kits

what do you guys think would be a good drum mic kit to get for a low budget punk who's into dirty sounding diy recordings? i know the shure set is probably the way to go but i dont have money for that, i make pizzas. i've been looking at a 4 piece nady or audio technica kit. let me know what...
