See this is what I mean - the metal I listen to isnt about Viking warriors raping men and going into war; it isnt about people big noting themselves; its not about idiots talking about blood and gore and so on.

The point I have tried to make every goddamn step of the way in this silly little thread is, grindcore is about expressing yourself - which means HOW YOU FEEL, WHAT YOU BELIEVE, HOW YOU SEE THINGS - not about 'fantasy' or whatever tripe you're trying to pin on me. The little armband thing couldnt be more true. Those people are idiots, as are those black metal idiots who think they rape christians or whatever they want to believe --- as are morons who think the three numetal kids they see in the street or the 80s throwback hairmetal nerd jerks somehow represent all metalheads!

You have to try and get this through your head - whatever preconceptions you have about a metal subculture doesnt apply to all forms of metal music. There is a massive difference in the style, lyrical content/concepts and so forth between thrash, death, black, doom, grind and so on.

Of course you cant write meaningful music without 'life experience' - but then again, you cant see past your own cock because you like to believe all metalheads are fantasy dungeon and dragons spindely little nyerds. That doesnt apply in all subgenres! That doesnt apply in bloody Australia on the other side of the world (or in the cultural groups in Sweden, Europe and Canada where the music is big)! Stop with your silly little stereotyping!

What grindcore is, is the fusion of extreme musical elements of metal with the integrity, the culture, the passion, the socio-cultural and political content of hardcore punk rock. It does away with big noting, with meaningless crap. It is about L-I-F-E, about the fvcking world man, not about any of this stupid crap you're on about. We express ourselves through an extreme medium, got that? I have said it around 37 bloody times now. Try to understand.

And make up your mind here you clown - do you want 'real world' music, or do you want 'self expression' or do you want to tell a little story... It doesnt seem like you have the slightest clue yourself.

Look the way I see it you're mistaking the metal I listen to to the majority of crap out there. I agree with what you say - that all this tryhard fantasy b/s, self proclaiming, egoistical, indulgent crap isnt worth a thing - that relevant, and 'real' music with ideals and direction is worth far more.

But just realise when youre saying these things, you cant say it about metal as a whole. The thing I love about the genre is it keeps evolving - and a few subgenres of metal have evolved past the pathetic shortcomings, trappings and cliches of the majority that you seem so hung up on.

Its the question that is the problem. If you even attempt to answer it, your stupid. I do see it for what it once was... you don't. Metal was, is and always will be underground. Anything mainstream is just pop-metal, recycled bullshit that actually hurts my brain to listen to. I don't hear anything from any other car on the street because I'm too busy listening to my music. I don't give a fuck what other people listen to. I have my taste, you have yours. I don't listen to radio, ever. You only see whats on the surface of metal, and thats fine. I've heard people say that a lot about Nirvana. I really don't understand where they are coming from. In fact it kind of winds me up. I love metal and I love Nirvana and I really don't see the connection. If they mean that Nirvana showed a few people that you didn't have to dress up in spandex and play a million notes a minute to play heavy rock music then well, it only means that. But then some of us knew that anyway.

If someone could give me a detailed explaination to the reasoning behind this theory I would be very interested. Like I say I have heard people say it for years but have never understood it.

Of course metal isn't dead at all, just not as mainstreem anymore. I checked Nirvana only because the "bongheads and psuedo intellectuals" thought that music was becoming shallow (it was to a point) and Nirvana convinced them they were getting something deep and meaningful. Of course they were getting stripped down guitars with no tone, and uninspired songs that just made everyone feel bad about themselves, and squashed the good feelings were were all having just before this crap was released to the public.

Metal is not dead, just not popular, I know hundreds of teens in our local area that are becoming familiar with AC/DC, Slayer, Judas Priest, and the like, and these teens are becoming more educated about what "real" metal is and liking it more and more.
