God, who cares what killed metal in the mainstream? Nirvana made those horrible hair metal bands go away - good. Now whos going to make HIM, Korn, Linkin Park, Bury Your Dead and the new slew of 'palatable' watered down crap go away for ever?

I know this is probably a shattering concept for you in your outer directed little world.

I dont know about you people but I would much rather play the music I love every day of my life and not get jack for it than betray myself and become a white rapper, numetal band, pop punk act or what have you.

I am always trying to be funny, but there is a grain of truth in what I said. A grain as big as a volleyball.

There is this logic that guys who play really fast and have all those licks that they can throw out there can do it because they sit at home and noodle on the guitar all week instead of chasing girls. Pretty much any cool guitar player in existance is a pussy hound. The real deal heavy metal guys act like they do it "for the love of metal". Anyone will tell you, and someday you'll find out (we'll keep our fingers crossed for you), pussy is way better than metal.

Maybe you're right. I am just thinking of everyone I know that plays for the love of metal and they like to play dungeons and dragons and first person shooter games and don't get any pussy.

By the way, I saw that gif on wikipedia and thought it was the craziest thing in the world so I stole it. I don't know who the guy is but that is one crazy freaking chow ain't it. Look at the bass player jumping off that amp and the bouncers at the stage and the nut that runs across and stage dives. That 2 seconds is the fucking craziest show I ever saw. Metal is about MUSICAL EXPRESSION. Nothing more nothing less. Music is far more important than getting pussy. Any stupid fucktard can get pussy. To make beautiful metal music, and to get the rewards that only that brings, you need to have more depth and substance than the average dipshit who plays power chords because he thinks it will help him get laid. If your main concern is getting laid, put the guitar down, stop being a poser, and fess up to your shallowness.

I voted for Bon Jovi ruining metal. There are bands that have done more damage, but they are up there. They had a lot to do with creating the current public perception od metal being dayglo hot pants, lip stick, and flaming fairies.
 
Ok, I admit it...I destroyed metal. I thought it was pretty tough, but after a little bending, it simply broke. I will pay to have it fixed.
 
Many of these new hardcore/metalcore type bands do sound the same and suck ass. I definitely agree with that.

I think that the MUSICAL EXPRESSION is inferior in a person not driven by the passions of life (pussy). I think all metal is shitty, not just the metal by power chord dipshits. I think malmsteen and petrucci or whoever are far gayer than some HM poser guy who at least asks chicks to show their boobies to him.

Just an opinion, really. I don't know if it's true 100% of the time. I am pretty sure it's true 80% of the time. Are you a 20%-er?
 
Awesome, way to include two actual metal bands who were both popular when their sound was big but nobody cares about anymore, therefore neither of them had any more then a minimal impact on the way metal is today, which has been going great for those who know that there's a shit load of better bands out there then what's on MTV. Good fucking lord, thanks for all the awesome reports from the inside of your ass hole.
 
Metal died in the 90's when all the old bands like Kiss and Black Sabbath reunited but claimed they weren't and never were metal. Hum... I guess Paul and Gene did all those Hit Parader and Metal Mania shows to give an outsiders point of view. :rolleyes:

Or maybe it was when Winger, Nelson and Slaughter we're considered Metal. Of course this was a day and age when even Jethro Tull was metal. Just ask the Grammy's. Wasn't that the same year Milli Vanilli won best new group? :confused:

There is a little thing called self-expression that I would not silence for anything in the world - all the pussy, all the money, fvck it. If it costs my personality, my soul, who I am and what I believe then it simply isnt worth it.

The mere fact that you admit that you dont like metal tell me its more than likely you (like most people) are just picking up on the surface noise of the music rather than really understanding anything about it. And oh, you like country? Cmon man, all credibility gone there.

I quickly read over that thread and although the idea of a clown sitting behind a computer saying 'cmon man I bet I could kick your arse in a guitar duel!' is probably one of the saddest things I've ever heard, it doesnt change how wrong you (and quite obviously MyHat also) are about the nature of music. It's not about pussy or posing or egos or 'pulling SICK solos duuuude'.

We're after expression. We're after artistic satisfaction. We're after self actualisation. It's a little something called art, which has died long, long ago in Western culture. I know, you're going to sit there and protest 'metal isnt art!' - wrong; that metal youre referring to isnt art. There are those bands out there, and no they dont pose, they dont wear makeup, and they dont play over the top wanker solos. They express themselves devoid of egos. They pour their souls out. They give their entire existence to music --- and of course, it would be ridiculous for me to pretend like 'metal' is the only blanket genre that does this. There are blues groups, r&b singers, rockers, hardcore punkers - there are a percentage of people in each genre like this. The metal I've found just has a higher proportion and connects with me on a more meaningful basis.

And at the end of the day, 99.9998% of all popular music is the bane of my existence. It's shallow, its materialist, egotistical, big noting, false, deluded, misleading triple devoid of any integrity, talent or skill.

And I'll say it one more time; anyone who is driven by a stupid little biological need more than their own personal integrity is a pathetic human being. I have a gorgeous girlie. I have my music. If I was forced to choose between many girls and no music (and therefore identity, expression, actualisation), or some girls and lots of music - I know which I would choose.

You mightnt really understand what its like to have a passion that drives your life. I mean, you do live in America, where every single act is about how others perceive you, how good you look in front of the cameras and all that other sad, sad b/s. I have to say, it takes a real man to live in that society and realise whats really going on. I'm glad I have met and spoken with so many Americans that dont act like the sad materialist, self concious, deluded, self obsessed wankers most seppos are. Maybe you fall into the former category?

The point is, if you dont feel it or understand it you never will. And mate, from the way you're talking, from the way your priorities are lining up - I dont think youve got a hope in hell.

No just kidding but im not about the ego and asskicking. Hell I don't really even promote my band. In fact. Our recordings sound like bullshit anyways but its the passion behind it that makes it sound...oh so gooood. ;)
Im not a closed minded idiot. I like classical, folk, native, some jazz,blues...all that stuff is great. Im very artistic. I like drawing, I love film. Ive directed movies before. Check out my latest movie on myspace. "Bang" is the title. Ummm I write poetry and movie scripts. Ive started a few stories..still havent finished though hahaha. Im not a dumbass behind a pc like you think.
 
It looks like i'm jumping into this kind of late, but in my opinion, metal never went anywhere. Whats popular evolves constantly, as it always does, but all forms of metal still exist to certain degrees. As mentioned before you just have to know where to look for it. With the internet, who needs radio and MTV anyway? They'll never cater exactly to anyones tastes anyway. Theyre only going to play what sells, bottom line.
