I am in the merket for a new acoustic guitar, and I am wishing so bad that I could have a Gibson SJ-200 Super Jumbo "King of the Flat Tops" guitar. But it's $3,000 price tag is keeping it out of my league. And please do not send me to eBay. I would never buy a nice guitar that I have never played.

I have also been fascinated by C.F. Martin & Co., and Guild. But their websites are pretty difficult to decifer. I simply want to know what is the largest model from each company?

Gibson: SJ-200
C.F. Martin & Co.: ???
Guild: ???

Also, since you guys know my affinity for large guitars, what would you recomend I take a look at in the $1,500 range?

Skip the Marshall amp and get your SJ200. I would take a nice acoustic over an amp anyday.

Save up and find a used Marshall sometime in the future.

I'm on board with the Guild - very good guitars for the money and built to last
also look at a D-size Martin (don't knwo if $1500 gets you there but I think it should if you go used)

hmmmm....

I have to say I'm particularly qualified for this question. I just had my '82 Taylor 815 stolen and replaced by a Gibson Super Jumbo-150. I think the Guild F-50's look way cooler than the Gibson but the few I checked didn't play as well. might have been dead strings, tho.

My vote, Taylor then Gibson.

I have a Guild JF30, which usually run around $1200 new. I like it much better than any of the Gibson Jumbos I played when I was in the market. It's loud, bright and has everything you want to hear in a maple jumbo. You should also check out Larrivee. I think they make just about the best stuff out there right now for your budget.

have a gibson working man 45. It starts at arround 1500 bucks, and sounds incredible

I am telling you. If that SJ200 is the nicest guitar you have ever played, then get it.....skip that damn Marshall. Its just a stack of noise. ...and my math says if you have 1500 for an acoustic and 1500 for an amp, then you have 3000 for your dream guitar.

AAAUGGH! I can't imagine what that felt like. Take my car but don't touch my 815C!

Another vote for Taylor - check out the 400 and 500 series and you should find something really sweet in your price range. The numeric series refers to trim level and features, not to size. But remember what Locuslarsen is saying - if it sounds right, it is right.

Taylor doesn't allow its dealers to do the internet advertising thing, so information comes from Taylor or from a phone call. Here's the Model 415 link:

These guys are Taylor dealers and can give you a price for a 415 over the phone. (Don't forget to plug Homerec!).

I think that I have decided on the Guild F50R with the Fishmann Pickup inside. I am placing an order for over $8,500 worth of stuff so he is selling me the Guild at a fat ass discount /(after I practically chewed his leg off of course). It's MSRP is $2,799. He "normally" sells them (salesmen talk for what he tries to bleed people for) for $2,100. And he is going to sell it to me for $1,800. I thought that $1,000 off the MSRP is a descent deal. And this is the "R" version with the rosewood back and sides for warmth. Geeze that is a big sucker.

What do you guys think?

You are "placing an order"?

So did you play it?

You said you would never by a nice guitar you didn't play.

 $8500

thats a number that takes a second to sink in..........

Ok, first... No I have not played the specific guitar I am ordering. I have of course played the Guild F50R in a store here in munich, and I have spoken with the guy from the online store i am ordering it from and he has 100% assured me that if I am not 150% satisfied then I can send it back C.O.D and he will send me another of the same model 50 times if I have to until I find the one that really flips my switch.

Now for the whole list...

I am getting the following

1x MOTU 24I/O: $1,300
1x Marshall TSL122 amo: $1,500
1x Focusrite ISA 428 Pre-amps: $1,640
2x Mackie HR824's: $1,200
1x Logic Control: $940
1x Guild F50R w/ Fishman pickup and hardshell case: $1,800
1x Installation fee for turnkey system: $120

Thant brings the total up to $8,500

I am having a dual 1.42 gHz Mac G4 delivered to them and they are going to install the MOTU card, install the software, and configure every little nook and cranny of the system around my existing Midi interface, midi gear, program in all the patches etc... Then deliver the whole bit to my door so that I can open the box, plug in and go for it. (So they say)... I'll let you know on how turnkey their "turnkey" set up really is. All together I am saving $800 off the advertised price of all this gear. And I am saving like $1,500 off the MSRP (which we all know to be purposely jacked up bullshit anyway). I thought/think it is a good deal, and the guys at the store have really been MOST helpful in helping me find what I need. I was going for a $2,600 RED 1 Focusrite pre pac, the Logic Control and the Logic Control XT, An OctoPre, and a ton of other stuff that they actually talked me out of, because some of it would just be over koll and redundent. They really worked with my budget and talked me down out of about $2,500 more money that would just have been luxury. That is something I have never had from a store before.

The store is Sweetwater. I do not know if anyone has had problems with them in the past, but I have nothing but positive things to say about them. If there is something I should know then tell me! Please!!!

I am really pleased so far. I will let you all know if there are any problems.

What do you all think about my kit??? Pretty cool huh? (PLEASE do not start some Mac/PC bullshit on this one!!!)
