raining here today ..... got bills to pay and stuff to do but I think later tonight I have a special tone I'm gonna record!

:D

Sweet!

Raining in florida? You don't say. It doesn't have anything to do with a tropical storm just sitting there does it? My aunt lives in Orlando. She says it's pretty bad.

Back in like 01 we had a tropical storm park it's ass right on top of houston. It moved in, and just stopped here. It dumped like 24 inches of rain overnight. I-10 was literally a river. People were driving boats and jetskis down a major US Interstate. It was pretty awesome.

that's basically what's going on here only not quite that much rain. I think we've gotten about 8 inches over the last week and it's supposed to rain all this week.
My yard is gonna be unmowable.

I think I'm gonna crank the hot tub and sit out in the rain later.

We haven't had any significant rain down here for like 2 years. Last summer was brutal. Bad drought, fires everywhere, it was crazy. I've lived on the gulf coast my whole life and I've never seen a lack of rain like last year. I mean seriously, it never rained. Ever. My water bill was like a billion dollars just to keep the yard alive. This year has been a little better, but not much. And it's already 102 degrees every day. And humid as fuck. Gotta love it! :D

yeah, that's how it was here the last few years and my yard basically died. I have about 3/4 acre and it was all dead brown grass/weeds and sand.
This year I've gotta hell of a green yard going.
I'm kinda dreading getting it cut when the rain ends though ........... I use a 22" non-self propelled mower. :D

As for the heat ..... yeah, you Texans and us Louisianians have that assimilated. I just laugh at people over here when they whine about the heat. It's nothing ..... there's always a breeze for one thing. In Louisiana there's always 500 miles of trees in every direction so there's never a breeze. If you can live through Texas or Lousiana heat nowhere else is gonna bother you unless you go to the Gobi desert or something.

I haven't seen much sun in the sunshine state this past week.

I have one (6101) and it does suck but I'll sell it to them.

I don't think they're that bad, it just funny how sensitive the 6100 owners are over there. Say anything bad about one and they all come at you like a swarm of panty-waisted, butt-cheek-loving homos.

Vhyle: The guitar tone you have does sound a little thin to me, like mentioned before, maybe try a cab simulation? Just a thought. It doesn't sound terrible, but there's always room for improvement (take it from someone who knows personally)....Keep at it, & keep us posted on your progress!!!

I'm counting the days down 'til my vacation starts......5 shifts to go counting today......unless the bastards make us work Saturday....which would be really shitty because it'd take a day of my vacation away, but I could always use the $$$$ too......

I thought about making a new thread for this subject, but naw. I've been testing some different strings lately (LaBella, SFarzo, and Darco) on my Epiphone, same on my acoustic. To each their own, but I always come back to Elixirs. The others simply lose their luster too quick, and I like to change strings as seldom as I can. Think I'm done testing for the time being.

Can I just ask something? When you guys drove in here did you see a sign saying "The New Rain Thread"?

Hunh?

You know why you didn't see that sign?

'Cause TALKIN' ABOUT RAIN ISN'T THIS THREAD'S DAMN BUSINESS!! :cursing:

Eh, tone is tone.
I think this is a pretty open thread.
It seems to be devoted mainly to guitar tone in general,
but I expect it will meander a lot if it is to ever stand
a chance of being "epic."
It was first place in posts for last week in the newsletter.

Hey Bubba Po,
It's not raining here where I live! :D

Post up some tone!

So what about strings?
I use D'Addario XL, but not for any special reason besides they are popular and sound good enough to me.
Supposedly, however, I'm supposed to venture out and find that perfect string that speaks to me.
Are some better than others for rock, tonewise?
Or better than other for other reasons?
Ernie Ball Super Slinky's seem pretty popular.

then you didn't read why I said it sucked. Read the whole posts willya?

It sounds great but they're unreliable and break down and no one will work on them and parts are unavailable and it cost 3 or 4 hundred bucks everytime you need it fixed.

Those guys very likely don't gig 7 times a week with 'em ............... if they did, they'd quickly use something else.

I think he was just saying what a bunch of Pussies the 6100 owners are on the Marshall forum.
I'm sure you guys have seen the amp forum on Guitar Central.
I sometimes enjoy stomping through there with a post or two to stir up their baby bee's nest.

I use Slinkys a lot. Right now I have a case of d-adarrios so that's what I'll use 'till they're gone.
Yes different strings sound different,........ no, it's not life changing and after a week of playing they all sound pretty similar.

Elixers don't lose their sparkle as fast as others but part of that is they have less sparkle in the first place.
I like 'em just fine but they're not worth paying 2 or 3 times as much in my opinion.

I also like DR Extra Life which are also coated plus they come in purty colors but, once again, 2-3 times as much as regular strings.
I gig 7 times a week and I still get a month's worth of use outta regular uncoated strings.

the only part of my post he quoted was me saying it sucked and then he said he doesn't think they're that bad.
Since he hasn't gigged with one to assess it's reliability and since he didn't reference that at all, I'm pretty sure I got it right.

But I will join that forum maybe to see if I can sell it.

So, I'm good with the D's and I'll try some Slinkys to see if they are different.
How do you decide it is time to change them?
It read like you are getting 60 or so hours of use out of a set?
What do you like gauge-wise.
I do pretty good with 9's.

At 7 gigs a week that'd be 112 hours on a set in a month.

I use 10's on my 25.5 scale gits and 11's on my 24.75 scale gits.

I change them when they lose their intonation.
Once they start being out of tune at an octave then they get replaced ......... a week later!
:D

Or when I break one ........... but that rarely happens.
