Where can you get Tobias basses anyway?????????????????????????????

I'm guitar player but the few basses I've played tha Warwick was the best. I guess any Warwick bass is absolutely great

Tobias

Origionaly Michael Tobias was making great handmade basses, then in the early 90's Gibson saw Tobias's success and bought them out. Gibson has some problems in the mid to late 90's and shut down the Tobias factory. There are only used Tobias basses floating around. I perfer the one's that were still hand made under the direction of Michael Tobais him self. There are a couple of really good bass guitar sites to check out. They have some of the older Tobias's as well as a bass players dream of selection.

Bass central is in Orlando Florida and is owned by Dave LaRue and Beaver Felton (two great bassist) They have it all!!!

my vote goes for the rickenbacker also. not only because it was paul's bass but i love the way it feels and plays, probably more so than their guitars

Don't laugh, but my Squire P-Bass.

I play guitar, but I wanted a decent bass to play arround with in my studio, plus something our bass player could play if he didn't feel like bringing over his Fender P-Bass. So we both went to Guitar Satan when they had Squire P-Basses on sale for $99. I said "pick one". So he tries out about seven different ones and says "this is it"
Now he doen't even bother to bring his P-Bass over.

I'm a guitar player and needed a bass for recording. I spent some time searching for a bass guitar at my local GC and MARS. I tried Squires, Fenders ( P and J), - MIM and MIA, Yamahas, and some $200 bargains.

I also tried different amps, SWR, Crate, Squire and Fender, - I really like the Bassman 25!

In short, if you are a guitar player, you will always appreciate a good bass guitar. The $99 bargains get 'played out ' real quick, especially, for recording.

I can't believe I ponied up for an MIA fender Precision -Hot Rod, when I could still don't have that MIA Fender strat, -but no regrets.

FYI, bought it from Musiciansfriend, - you can buy quailty guitars mail-order and be happy!

My favourite recorded tones have come from F basses, Foderas and MTD's. No, it wasn't me who recorded them, I could never afford one of those monsters! :(

# I can't believe I ponied up for an MIA fender Precision -Hot Rod...

I was lucky and got one brand new for $499 on Labor Day at Guitar Center's list sale, one _exactly_ like the picture here:

I have to say that it is a really nice bass, but have you noticed that the volume controls work really oddly? I hadn't paid any attention until someone mentioned it on Fender Forums.

I also don't detect _that_ much difference in the sounds of the two pickups, do you?

bongolation, I just missed the $499 Hot-Rod labor day deal, I was walking around with the 'list' looking for it, when someone else picked it up!

Got mine + hardcase from MF, -$599, so I can't complain. I have found a difference between the pick-ups, and prefer the J. I haven't paid attention to the response of the volume and tone controls, -but I'll take a look.

I also got the Sunset Orange Transparent finish, -just love it.

If you turn one off, the other one only works for about the top 20% of the rotation. From about 0 - 8 it's off (I can't tell what's going on with both in use).

Someone said that this was because the amp input impedance was too low, but I'm not sure I'm buying this explanation.

But yeah, they're definitely nice basses, no question. I wonder why Fender was dumping them?

I used to have a Rick 4001 that I picked up in a trade. I didn't play Bass, so I sold it at the Dallas Guitar Show. Have regretted it often, because I would like to learn to play.

Hey! I'm a CHICK!

Any bass played by any chick.

I play a DeArmond Pilot Pro

That's not a great bass. But I play it...and I'm a chick. Does that make it your favorite?

Although I must admit. If I were a man, and I was watching me play the bass. Yeah. It'd be my favorite. I think the only thing sexier than a woman playing a bass is a woman who kicks the guyz butts shooting pool! ;)

wal bass

i've never played one before, but i hear wal basses are pretty good. expensive, but nice.

Firstly.........mshea.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!

As a guitarist I'm not really qualified to comment BUT, having "played" various Fenders, a G&L 5 string, Warwick 6string Thumb Bass, Hofner and as of today a Yamaha TRB-6P I have to say the Yammie is my preference, if only for the tonal variations available with the piezo / active combination.

ChrisO

I really like my Rickenbacker 4001. It was made in the mid-60's and lost the pickup cover somewhere along the way but it still plays like a dream.

I have looked at a lot of other basses, and decided that if I buy a second one, it will be the G&L (probably a 5 string.)

a early 60`s Moserite dual humbucker, Walnut backed semi hollowbody.
a silver edition '75 Ibanez jazz, passive
a modded 72 Fender jazz with OBL passives.
a Washburn custom 5 string with active Bart's.

I have only one baby, a 81 J-bass gold.
It's full of life, not one modern pop bass can compete with, all cheap crap! :D
