TASCAM to Software. Audacity, Pro Tools, or any other

Does anyone here record with their TASCAM or any other machine and then move the files over to a software to edit and mix?
I've been using a TASCAM for many years now but I'm new to software. Currently I'm trying Audacity.
My question is... How do you get the files you want in to the program?
I copied the songs folder from my TASCAM and it opened up over 100 instances of Audacity.
Every thing that was recorded over is saved and opens up in Audacity.
Do I need to master each track to get one solid track?
Master the kick drum track, master the snare track, Tom track, etc....

You don't mention the model Tascam model you are using. If you're using a DP-24 go to section 13 of the manual......"Exchanging Data With A Computer". It gives you one way to easily move single tracks to any DAW. Try that method.

If you're using some other Tascam model let us know.

By the way.........I use a DP-24 and transfer most tracks to Reaper.......which is a very good DAW and is free to try and very cheap to buy.

You don’t need to master each track on the Tascam.
It sounds like you have your computer set to open audio files (.wav?) from the Tascam with audacity. This is why you got so many instances.
Once you get the tracks on the computer, open audacity first and then import the audio from there.
I think you can grab all the tracks at once on import and they should all come into one instance of audacity and line up perfectly.
Then you can mix them, add effects etc.
I’ve done this many times from a 2488.
