Crap in the driveway? What crap? The driveway is
C L E A N as compared to when I was working on the bumper!
Notice the large dumpster - it contains 20 dead computers, a huge pile of brush, tons and tons of empty paint and varnish cans, many dead useless car parts, a few engine blocks that pistons came through, and two bathrooms
I've been doing a lot this summer!
The reason why the bumper is so large (and flat) is its a "push bumper". Often when race cars die, they need to be pushed off the track and this bumper can withstand that punishment. The original bumper mounts rusted so bad the factory chrome bumper fell off on the highway, nearly killing me and the people tailgating me. Anyway, needed to replace it, so I figured since I had the time, the steel, and the welding equipment, might as well make the push bumper and get some practice welding before I weld together my console table frame. The console table frame not only has to be strong as hell (no problem), but it has to be athetically pleasing. Large nasty beads will be unacceptable in my studio, so every welding project before that point in time (end of november is about when I'll start welding the table together), helps me practice making weld beads "sexy" as well as functional. I mentioned this a long time ago in a discussion with Fitz... my console table will be 13' wide and *not* have center legs, so *my* legs won't bang anything. It has to be triangulated from the sides and the back, so it doesn't bow in the middle under the weight of the various console and devices to be installed upon its surface.
A custom made bumper like this would cost approximately $600 mail order, plus shipping. THis cost me about $150 in materials, though with all the manhours in it to reach the $600 I paid myself about 50 cents an hour. But, I got the welding practice I needed.
Anyway, back to recording shit, you'all not that interested in my weird projects
