Show Off Your Studio

Thanks for the response Velvet Elvis. Actually, I was talking about computer monitors but am glad you explained the purpose for the dual studio monitors too. That makes sense on both accounts. I did notice that Blue Bear had dual computer monitors in his studio but didn't know why.

I was wondering about the dual computer monitors mainly because one of the newest Cubase versions has a recommended system requirement of dual computer monitors. I guess I'm really behind the times if that is now a recommended requirement...

Ok, I can't find my damn camera. WEll, I got a black steel/glass desk with a behringer mx2442a, a custom built computer for optimum recording :p my rack, and a small ass 14x14 room with foam everywhere because i cant afford to put in a seperate recording room, i got my tama rockstar kit, my guitars my marshall halfy and my marshall 100wdfx for my basses and thats pretty much it. BUT im 17 so itll get better when i move out next year. I'm still strugglin for money to get a few more things for my rack, i want to get drum mics just not miccing my reg ones to the drums, and i want a small midi controller.

OK.
This is where I'm at now:

If this even qualifies as a "studio"...

These are my KRK RP8 monitors, my Kenwood stereo reciever with a pair of Akai 3-way floor speakers and a pair of little Panasonic speakers.

That's my Behringer MX2004A mixer. (for preamps)

Meh. It works.. but I can't wait to get more shit.

My mics consist of 3 AT Pro-35x clip on condensors, an AT kick/tom mic, and a 57. In the mail is an MXL 990/991 pack.

Here's my workspace. I sold the MPC. Mackie mixer and Godin Guitar. There's a MPD-16, UC-33 controller and Ibanez bass in their places.

Come on people lets have more posts

Here is about 1/5th of my equipment:

Here is why the equipment is scattered throughout the attic, the garage, offsite storage, and in the foyer:

The reason why the studio is unfinished, is mostly due to it still being warm, and when its warm, I play car monkey. Once it gets a little cooler, and I can't weld, paint and fabricate, I'll move my a$$ upstairs, finish the studio across two or three weekends, then weld together the console table furniture, then slap down the hardwood on the floor and start soldering, which will take most of the winter I imagine. Sixteen 144 point TT patch bays per end. Thats a lot of friggen jacks.

frederic... that's funny man...

The studio looks EXACTLY like I remembered it looking last time I saw it :) Guess not much has changed :)

Yeah, I haven't done squat in the studio since the early spring. I've been distracted by car/truck projects as I've said.

I completed one this afternoon in fact (superbumper). Now this evening and the rest of the weekend will be spent finishing up the new bathroom, as well as welding together turbocharger manifolds for the umteenth time.

While you're at it... pick up all that crap on your driveway man!! ;)

Do ya think ya made the bumper big enough? I can't wait until the first time you accidentally bump something with that... your garage... your wife's car... a sherman tank... :)

He's probably one of those freaks that goes around slamming into empty shopping carts in the grocery store parking lot late in the evening.

Crap in the driveway? What crap? The driveway is C L E A N as compared to when I was working on the bumper!

Notice the large dumpster - it contains 20 dead computers, a huge pile of brush, tons and tons of empty paint and varnish cans, many dead useless car parts, a few engine blocks that pistons came through, and two bathrooms :)

I've been doing a lot this summer!

The reason why the bumper is so large (and flat) is its a "push bumper". Often when race cars die, they need to be pushed off the track and this bumper can withstand that punishment. The original bumper mounts rusted so bad the factory chrome bumper fell off on the highway, nearly killing me and the people tailgating me. Anyway, needed to replace it, so I figured since I had the time, the steel, and the welding equipment, might as well make the push bumper and get some practice welding before I weld together my console table frame. The console table frame not only has to be strong as hell (no problem), but it has to be athetically pleasing. Large nasty beads will be unacceptable in my studio, so every welding project before that point in time (end of november is about when I'll start welding the table together), helps me practice making weld beads "sexy" as well as functional. I mentioned this a long time ago in a discussion with Fitz... my console table will be 13' wide and *not* have center legs, so *my* legs won't bang anything. It has to be triangulated from the sides and the back, so it doesn't bow in the middle under the weight of the various console and devices to be installed upon its surface.

A custom made bumper like this would cost approximately $600 mail order, plus shipping. THis cost me about $150 in materials, though with all the manhours in it to reach the $600 I paid myself about 50 cents an hour. But, I got the welding practice I needed.

Anyway, back to recording shit, you'all not that interested in my weird projects :)

foreverain4... wow that looks nice.... very nice.

frederic... you know I'm just busting your jaw about your "various" projects... call it jealousy, as my studio at this location is still just a paper dream. The only things done are the 4 cement walls.

And to top it off... one of the artists on my label came over and we were talking equipment... he wanted to see my Yamaha Promix, so I fired it up... and.... nuttin'.

Screen flickers irregularly and nothing else ever happens.

CRAP!

OK, here we go, and pardon the mess. If you squint, you can see my latest toy, the DMP3 (which so far I am lovin').
