this one was actually recorded a couple of years ago...

it's called "Redwood Road"....

which is the name of a road in town here, that seems to be rife with road rage and idiot drivers and dumb people in general. LOL

so the song vibe, is supposed to reflect that...

Hahaha, interesting stuff Gonzo.
Some nice shredding in there too.

Sounds real good...but a little better when I add a few db to the mids. Nice clean parts...tight. Real good guit sounds and playing.

Interesting arrangement. Big hiss started just before the drums came in - is there a problem with your drum recording too much hiss? The kick (I think) was very clicky. Maybe reducing the treble on some of your drum parts (definitely kick, at least) will reduce both clicking and hiss.

Keep mixing this and watch that treble.

thanks for listening......
shredding, isn't that for lettuce?!
:p

jeffmaher-
appreciate the listen.
yep, i'm gonna remix this for sure, this was done on my old VS system, before i moved to Sonar.
my chops are better now for mixing....

jinkos-
hey, thanks for listening...
there's no problem with the recording at all.... these drum tracks were samples, and were 'cleaner' than miced up tracks.

what you are hearing, is a 'DJ scratch' effect at the beginning.
it's supposed to sound like a turntable slowly being ramped up....

what are you monitoring on? you may have issues with your monitors, or your room, if you cannot make that part of the sound out....

the drum parts, are from an ACID loop i created, i don't have ACID loaded anymore, so i'll have to tweak a stereo file of drums, to get anything more out of it.

but you're right, i need to re-EQ the entire drum kit, round out the bottom, bring more of the deep kick out, without killing the snare and cymbal work.
i'll probably mellow out the clean guitar parts a bit too, and we'll see where i get it to.....
that's kinda why i posted it, to see if it was worth the bother.

thanks for the comments!

Okay...every time you post, I look forward to listening and comment. So I listen--but when it comes time to comment, I have nothing constructive to offer.

Some stuff (okay most) I listen to like homework, to be evaluated, graded and improved. But some stuff I just get lost in at the opening notes--it just rocks me and I groove on it. I can't sit here and compare it to "real" music, because it is "real" music, better than most, in fact. Sure, I'm biased--guitar based instrumental rock is heaven to me, but you sir, do it well enough to hang with the big boys.

Sycophant rant over. :D

thanks man.

i appreciate the listen, i'm so glad this tune hits somebody, the way it hits you.
makes me feel like i did something right!
LOL
or at least, in the ballpark.

i know this kind of stuff is not everybody's cup of tea, i have friends that just hate this stuff, others that it's all the want to listen to.
world goes round, and all that.......

bottom line with my instrumentals.. i try to make the 'riffage' have vibe and feeling, and never come off as just wanking. i put time and thought into how i want it to work, not just thrash it out and see what happens...
there is a certain element of that thing that VH used to say was like "falling down the stairs, and landing on your feet"....
i'll start at a specific spot, and end at a specific spot, and not necessarily know what happened in between.
but for me, it's always about trying to be melodic, even at velocity.
and i don't even play that fast, i've been trying to boil that part down over the years, i'm getting there i think.

thanks again!

I'M GONNA REMIX THIS ONE FOR SURE..

i hear all kinds of things i want to change....

track notes:
Bass: don't even remember! heheh...... might have been an Acid Bass guitar loop...

drums:
i used ACID to create the drum tracks for this one.
including the banging trashcans near the end....
heheh

the clean guitar part:
that was a POD XT, set on a Blackface Fender sounding.....
i ran into my Barber Tone Press compressor going into the pod.
sounds like a touch of reverb, touch of chorus, a touch of medium long delay..
i just ran with a sound i liked, and printed the effects on the spot.

solo guitar:
i used my DEMETER ISOLATION CABINET for the guitar tracks on this one...
i think i had a AT4033 condenser on the speaker, but i kinda sounds like a 57 to me, i just don't remember.
also, i was switching speakers in and out of this thing so fast back then, i don't remember which one is miced:
it was either a Eminence Legend (15w driver), a Carvin British series (80 w driver) or a celestion greenback.
