It's expanding now. What hasn't been established as strongly is whether it will continue to expand indefinitely, though that seems to be the prevailing opinion.
correct.

The thinking at this point is eternal expansion but physics and astronomy are changing rapidly and things long thought to be have their detractors so we'll see.

Maybe it snaps back at some point and we all implode back into the singularity from whence we came...? :)

All the deep-thinking stoners out there are eventually gonna be proven correct--- that we're just a ball of shit suspended in an evaporating mud puddle from another dimension where what we percieve to be billions of years is less than a split second.

I find all this stuff quite interesting but lets face it.
It's all speculation and although something might make sense and seem logical that doesn't mean it's true.
Fact is .... we'll never know for sure.
Because we can't go back billions of years and can't look into the future either ................. so it's always gonna be opinions and spec.

Hubble with his redshift measurement discoveries proved that the universe is expanding.

Which came to establish *Hubble's Law* which within it can be found *Hubble's constant* that has a value of H0 = 73.8 ± 2.4 (km/s)/Mpc.

unless it turns out that some else 30 zillion light years away accounts for the red shift.
We'll never know

I'm right on it then Steve. I'll be back in 30 zillon light years. Don't wait up for me. :D

Back to GC...

mrs apl went in to score some cables for me as a gift, birthday or something, and she told them she needed two six foot quarter inch TRS cables.

The guy claimed that GC did not carry that brand.

:laughings: I've never seen that brand either!

im lucky enough to have a pretty decent guitar center nearby...good selection and decent rooms to try stuff out in, its in a mall so its pretty massive...

I was in there a week and a half ago and although they can be a bit pushy when you walk in they soon leave you alone if you say youre just looking...I told the salesman that the Irish guy coming in with me seldom left a guitar shop without a purchase and told him his name

I went and looked at synth and caught up with him 20 mins later...he says "fuck me theyre pushy in here" lol, but he did get a shot of every guitar he could think off then walked out without even buying a plectrum much to the sales guys disappointment :D

You should be able to track your order - even if you can't do it, the guys at the store should be able to look it up. Or else you can call the GC.com people to track it down for you. Not sure if I can look it up for you, but I'm happy to try if it's still giving you trouble.

I think that some places just don't train their sales staff as well. GC is trying to remedy that by putting all the new hires through hours and hours of training before they even put them on the floor, but sometimes you just have to learn as you go. I am a college graduate with a fair amount of recording experience and I find it very irritating when a customer comes in looking for a very specific item that I'm not familiar with and then talks down at me because I don't know about it (I don't mean to suggest that you are one of those people, so please don't take it that way). There are a LOT of things we have to know about at GC, and even just learning all the brands we carry is a lot to remember.

Anyway, I guess my point is, yeah, a lot of GCs could probably use work. But we're not all bad! I always tell people not to get the super cheap cables because they aren't guaranteed and break all the time, but I don't really push the expensive brands unless they seem interested. Completely pointless for live use, anyway...

If you ever want anything relatively hassle-free, shoot me a PM. Though I am required to try to get you to buy Pro Coverage (it's not THAT bad, really!).

Thanks thebigcheese.

It's sometimes easy to forget how tough the retail world is, and how management can require seales staff to do stuff in a manner customers consider stupid or offensive. My one brief stint on the sales floor at an audio retailer left me wondering how people could put up with that crap for extended periods, much less a career.

If you don't mind me asking, how does brand selection by the customer affect the commissions and spiffs (aka income) of the sales force? I know A friend of mine who was a manager for Radio Shack used to describe the dumb ways that Tandy used to vary commission multiplier points based on metrics like "sales per ticket" or "items per ticket" or amount of specific items sold. Does GC do stuff like that?

Fair enough, and thanks man..
the day I posted this thread, was not the best let me tell ya, and then when I could`nt sign into my account, and to top that off, the new pass word page was`nt working either (still is`nt)..that was just the final straw at that perticular moment..LOL..
I`ve been going to GC for quite a while, and will continue to go there..and
I do understand that most of the fellows working there are fairly young, and defiantly understand that theres a whole bunch of stuff to try and figure out and get familiar with etc..

I have a little experiance in sales myself, and yeah it can be a major PITA dealing with people all day..everyday..

Now...lets get to whats important...the posibility of a super nova hitting earth!!!

LOL/kidding..

Thanks again man..

Our commission is a fixed percentage - the only reason brand selection impacts our pay is that some brands make more profit than others, so we make more commission off of them. Every now and then, a specific manufacturer will have a sales contest, so that might impact what we recommend any given month. We are expected to average something like 2.5 items per transaction and we are also expected to have a 30% attachment rate on our Pro Coverage plans, which I think is about the highest of any retailer.

Generally, working at GC is pretty good. We actually get pretty good health insurance on top of good discounts on gear. Every now and then, a customer will really irk me the wrong way, but that's kind of expected. I will leave it at that, in case they are stalking me.
