recording multiple mics to one track

super newbie question:

I've got about four mics on a guitar amp placed all over the room. it's all running into my mixer and I want to sum everything to one track on my otari 8 track.

my question is, since my mixer is stereo, should I pan everything to one left or right channel and use that output as a mono input in the otari?

how does one usually dump a variety of mics to one channel? do you bus it to another free channel on the mixing board and take a direct out from there?
