downloading right now but the server is being slow as balls. godo tune though. i actually kind of dig the distorted acoustic parts. nice work. maybe ill have a shot at winning this one.

Ok, that was really strange. I don't know how I could have fucked that up. lol. But anyways here is my first mix.

Things I am aware of that need to be changed:
1)It's way bass heavy (mixed through v600s)
2)The vocals need a bit of tweaking.
3)The toms aren't quite right yet.

Did you use auto tune on my voice?
It sounded like wow from a tape machine.
Serious note fluxing.
 
yes i used auto tune kind of as an effect. this song by way of default to me had a kind of robotic, futuristic sound to it and i thought the auto tune fit it well. maybe i should revisit my thoughts on this? lol. other than that, how'd it sound?
 
pretty good actually.
I think we have a similar way of mixing you and me, well...minus the auto tune lol.
 
I like what you've done with it as well. I'm struggling with the style...it's just a bit "out of the box" for me. I'm feeling a sort of an ancient Celtic vibe with a harder metal edge.

I'm not even close...I keep changing my mind about even the simple stuff.

I suck :rolleyes:

Cool! Hopefully, I can find some time to take a shot at this one.

Finsterx, I don't know what it is. I mixed a couple of your heavy tunes and initially I don't get too excited about them, then about 30 minutes into them I really start digging them! Then the melody is stuck in my head for days!

Once again cool stuff :)

I downloaded it and had a chance to listen to the tracks once so far... I'm caught up in two theater productions and putting together a new band... Which might explain why my entry for PMC 7 was so lackluster... :rolleyes: This 'spare time' myth is really getting annoying... :D

I'm hoping to get some time to really work on it tho... What i heard so far had a real cool evanescence flair about it... Good job!

I think that my download was corrupt. Some of the drum tracks had loud crackles at certain points. The acoustic guitar track was just a mass of this really horrible sounding distortion. At first I thought my soundcard was taking a dump then I realized it was just that one track. I don't feel like downloading the whole thing again so I think that I will sit this contest out.
 
the drum tracks im not sure where you had a problem, but the acoustic is supposed to be like that. he just overdrove the preamp when he recorded the part. same for the low keyboard jabs during the acoustic part. preamp overdrive. it was intentional. chris and I, i think, share a unique "that should sound fucked up, but it doesnt" kind of attitude about certain projects. lol
 
thanks for the followup chris. that mix was all headphones, so i need to revise it. alot. ha. but i guess im on the right track
 
Late to the party, but wher cna I Dload this as I cannot acces NL's Server
 
Decided to stay late tongith at the studio adn give this song a quick whirl. I have been in here all day so i am pretty sure I shouldn't be doing any final mixes right now. I would bet (since I haven't referenced it anywhere else but Dynaudio-land) that the bass might be a little hot, the kick may need a little automation and maybe even a little less lows, and the whole song may also be a bit wet. So far this song strikes me as sort of a wet song. Also, the OH mics probably need a little drop during some of the breaks. All in all, I like this song so far. For me the whole mix starts around the vocals. I am not used to working with stereo files so having all the instruments in stereo made it a little wierd for me to find the image I wanted, and the kick drum seems to almost have a little slappy echo to it. The vox were nice and emotional though so I think that in the end that will overshadow any other possible shortcomings. At least in my opinion.

Anyhow, NL5 asked for some rough mixes so here is mine....



Also, xfinsterx, this is your baby so i would be interested to know how you view it.
