Another Mixing Contest: Back By Popular Demand

I'll probably have some free time to give some feedback next weekend, too. Even if you don't want me to ;)
The more feedback people get on their mixes the better IMO. After all, this is just an exercise to get better at listening and mixing. I for one have a horrible time getting the low end right. There's something about my room that makes it hard to hear the low end properly. My mixes sound completely different on my monitors vs. headphones vs. in the car. I've got tons of bass traps and absorption and diffusors, but the low end vexes me.

did you make a measurement (e.g. with room eq wizard) to track down the problem?
I downloaded one of the room analysis programs and tried to run tests but couldn't get the ping to register with the software I downloaded. Finally got frustrated and gave up. Any suggestions on a good free one? I'm on a mac.

Room EQ wizard won't open on my imac. I've tried. I may just break down and get fuzz measure.

hm...i'm on windows. but currently there are 2 version. a stable version & a beta version. depending on which one you tried, you could maybe try the other one.

I'm only seeing one version. Do you have a link where there are two?

I wanted to bring out the vox a bit more whether that was succesful or not, don't have enough time to figure them better. I wanted to do them justice but only had limited time. Duplicated a few bits for BV's of which not the beginning two or three work and wanted to do more in the verse bits. Toned down the guitars and seperated the the variations, brought out the banjo a little more ... aiming then for acoustic stage. It does sound barnyardy eh?
Nothing finished but wanted to do something on it as remember your son's good vocals and quite interesting, but sometimes a little strange or maybe suggestive of something deeper, lyrics ...
This one is like two mining boys going on some kind of romp I can gather?

Thanks for the mix. The story behind the song is posted earlier in the thread.

Finally got a chance to do it, glad I didn't miss the deadline. Still, I might upload another because I haven't checked this one on anything but my monitors. I had a lot of trouble with the bass. Anyway, hope you like my mix.
And nice song by the way, I really liked the vocal harmonies.

Thanks for all the mixes. Got 'em. If you submit more than one mix, only your final one will receive consideration. That said. I worked on reverb and delays, tweaked levels, and added some special sauce here and there. Here's my absolute, dog gone, definitely, without a doubt, fo shizzle, final mix. Sooooo, this morning I get an PM from a friend who checked out my final mix, and he said, "Sounds good, except for that effect you have on it......."

I said, "What fx?" ....checked the mix and even though Im not sure what he was talking about, in the depths of paranoia, I remixed the whole damn thing.....and here it is.

Sorry for multiple "final mix" posts.....this one is it.
