Thanks to Doug, NL5, Xfinsterx - great song if I didn't mention it before.

It was a pretty quick mix, using Sonar4, Waves, UGP prototype monitors with parasound amp, and AKG 240 phones, the first and most work was spent on the drums, next was the harmony mainly just experimenting with an idea, I cut it up into sections and on some sections put a Wave plugin on then sent it to a buss with eq. to cut out everything but the highs then an amp sim and chorus, so in some places phrases would get the effect and others only a single word or two would get it. About the only other thing I really did was work a little on the high strings to make then sound a little more urgent. Also didn't squash anything, either in the mix or the mixdown.

P.S. round of applause for everyone, it was close at the top.

Less than -0-?
Wow that sucks. I think if you have a negative number they don't put your score up. lol

Just kidding man. It's a good thing for me you got bumped; I would have been at least one notch further down the list.

Can't outmix "The Kid"

Wow... shot down again... ah well...
I did take some liberties on mixing style...
I saw it differently than the rest of y'all I guess.

Congrats all.

Honestly surprised my "air" category was as good as it was...
I dropped out most of the highs... Hmm.

This was my tame mix... you should hear how I really wanted to mix it... :D

Hey vanbas glad too:

Here's some more the titles should be self explanatory:

Most thing went though this

this was the same on all three vox (duh)

I did go in and manually adjust (volume) certain word or phrases, and that "K" in musk was annoying to me so it had to go.

Toms had very slight variations of this

the gating was just a T&E process, soloing each track and playing around till it sounded OK there not perfect but...

I noticed in the pic of the mixer there's another main vox track with 4 effects on it, I was like "what's that?", looked at it and found it to be blank, it must have been some crazzy experement I was trying;)

I also would like to see how others went about the mixing process, we can always learn off each other.

Thanks DS21 :D :D :D

Now I listen to your mix and try to remember in my head how these plugin settings work.I know that things are complex but I'm sure this will help me in the future.

Uhhh.....I'm trying to figure out if there was a high amount of sarcasm intended in that statement leading to an insult?. lol. Or am I just being rediculous.

Not even a little sarcasm intended.
I've listened to your past mixes man.
You got mad skill.
If your not doing this for a living, you should consider it.

Oh wow thanks a bunch bro. I don't do it for a living but I do it as a hobby and for side cash and what not. All of the stuff you have probably heard has been done portable. I have everything in a 12 space SKB rack and I carry that and my monitors and computer around wherever the band plays or whatever venue and put all my mics and cables in two suitcases. I would love to do it full time but lack the facilities. I appreciate the props though.

I Actually haven't listen to any of your recording at this point.
Just your mixes of all the "Mix Contest".
I was actually done with one of the Contest when I listened to what you did with the drum mix......damn you man! I had to start over.
At this point I'm getting a little better but I still can't get a total grip on mixing in the Box.
I've been mixing in the studio for years but just started this computer mix thing a few Months ago.
I'm using the contest as my Homework so I don't experiment with client’s material.
Hells man, I was so frustrated with one of the mixes I almost dumped it to my HD24 to mix it in the studio just to get it done. But that would have defeated everything I'm trying to accomplish.
Ultimately I want to combine both worlds with a smooth transition.
Someday I’ll be king of the box. (NOT!) Lol.
