Richard thanks for your suggestions. Do you own a B3?...would you happent to have some recordings that I could listen to...even some snippets?

Flapo, I'll be in trouch with you brudda ;)

The AT 4040 is only $299 and is already getting great reviews from pros. Of course, so is the SP C1 for $199. From what I've read, the 4040 is estremely versatile.

Good options, but a little out of my price. I'm still a little uncomfortable by getting used mics on ebay.. have u guys had any experiences with that?
What about the groove tubes GT55. I saw an add at school selling one for $200 in like new condition.
Also what about the C1...I'm still very interested in this mic...Any owners ?

I know I need more than that, but one at a time....that's why I want to start with the most versatile.

Out of the Studio Projects B1, B3, C1, and C3 mic's, the B3 is the most versatile mic of the bunch IMO. The Studio Projects B3 mic does have an internal shock mount and you can also buy the Studio Projects LQ-21 spider shock-mount for the B3 if you want.

a nice little piece on putting together a mic cabinet...

In that artcile Dan Richards wrote "I think the C1 will cover the U87 bases quite well." and IMO that is simply not ture. The C1 does NOT sound like a U87.

I also forgot to mention that IMO the Studio Projects LQ-21 spider shock-mount for the B series mic's is a funky cheap plastic holder. It is also my understanding that Studio Projects cut corners to save money and their B series and their C1 were not built to last for a life time, otherwise SP would have glued and bolted their diaphragm capsules rather than only gluing them. Don't misunderstand me, the SP mic's sound good and may last about 20 years if you (baby them) take care of them. But, if your looking to make a life time investment in your mic's, the SP mic's may not be a good choice. Only time will tell if the Studio Projects mic's become classics or worthless non-working pices of junk.
