is there such a thing
as an echoes effects device for a multitracker or is reverb the same thing as echo?sorry for making all the dumb questions but im trying to screw up as little as possible before I buy anything.

there are many devices Ive seen but none has an echo button or switch on it(lol)so I'm presuming reverb maybe is the technical word for echo?will sombody with a kings heart and loads of patience be willing to help this nincompoop soon to be expert?(yeah right-in a million years-lol)

The processes behind echo and reverb work the same way in that the signal is repeated after its played (unless you are referring to the older spring reverbs where the signal isnt electronically duplicated). The parameters involved that differentiate an echo and reverb is decay (or degeneration of sound as it fades) and time delay: the lower the decay and greater the time delay, the more of an echo you produce.

However, there are other parameters involved that are specifically suited to reverb and delay. Reverb often has parameters to change the pitch of the decay and the "room" the reverberation is repeated in. Echo parameters often include such nifty things as ping-pong panning and reversing the echo. Even so, some reverb units may have echo parameters and vice versa.

Confused yet? Good! ;)

Actually, many multi-effects units have both echo and reverb features (one example being the alesis microverb). I think a multi effects box would be your best buy, because many have other effects features such as pitch shifting, flange, and other weird stuff to play with.
