I honestly believe that it's not the quality that's dropped ... it's the prices. Of course when you pay peanuts, you expect monkeys, so you end up believing it's cheap crap.

And naturally, some of it *is* crap but that's the same whatever country. ;)

ATs electret condenser mics...like the 4050?

What is the dif between an electret condenser and an ext. biased?
 
The AT4040, 4049, 4050, 4051, 4053 and 4060 are all externally biased condensers.

It's the 3031, 3032, 3035, 4033 and 4041 that are back electrets .

I was obviously referring to models lower in price than the 4050 :rolleyes: (though I guess I should have also mentioned the 4049).

i honestly didn't know where AT stuff was made. Or at least the "less expensive" models. And I don't reemmber the dif between back electets and ext biased. Ill have to do a search or look at Harveys big thread.

I just got my Malibu out of storage yesterday...hope to ski for the first time this year tonight, if the weather holds up.....

You can afford it--that's why you probably just don't have a conception of what "budget" means. There are many people who can afford for food just little bit more for whole month, than you can spend for one lunch. If these people love and want to record music, would you advise them to save and get a better microphone? And even if Chinese mics suck, that's the only what many people CAN AFFORD. And BTW, it is possible to make very decent recordings even with mics which, as you say, suck.

I recommend that they buy the best mics they can afford... the same goes for instruments... I recommend that they buy the best instruments they can afford too... there is no sense in making things harder on yourself if it doesn't have to be.
 
I don't wear Tommy Hillfiklers clothes even though I can probably afford the crap. Alot of people might say they are the best thing out there (oh yea, that was '95). I can't see it. I feel more comfortable in a Joe Mommas Pizza shirt.
