How's this you think? (Micing Guitar Cab)

I took a minute with your clip and here's where I'd probably initially nudge it. The bottom's got this looseness that I'd want to improve.

Gtr Clip
I just went back and listened to the clip that I posted and I can hear the high end fizz that you guys are talking about. Seems like that could be tamed by just lowering the treble some, though.

As far as your EQ, maybe it's the fact that you were just enhancing the bad things, but I didn't like it. That's just me, though. I'll go back to the "drawing board" and see what I can come up with. I'll probably take the LDC out of the equation. I'm going to evaluate between the SM7, SM57, e609 and the i5. I'll see where I end up.

I'd suggest the tone be put in context with everything else. what sounds like poo alone can fit very nicely. I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about the top end until it's put in context. the bottom bother me a lot more.

again, I'd stick with the tried and true "57". learn it and spend time with the amps dials and mic placement. it'll pay off... guaranteed.

How old are the power tubes in your head? The bottom does sound pretty flabby. That's what mine does when the tubes are shot.

Not very old at all. A few months maybe. From Eurotubes. I have other suspicions for the flabby bottom end, though.

I don't disagree about the fizzy sound.

Start with the 57. If you have the 57 pointed at the center of the speaker (dust cap), then move it towards the edge about the middle of the cone.

Also, try turning the gain down and turning up the volume if necessary to make up for it. Start with the gain very low and bring it up until you get the fizz, then back it off until it goes away.

Don't worry about where the knobs end up. You might think 'but I never play with the gain at 9:00 and the bass at 8:00 or whatever', but ignore those thoughts. Twist the knobs until it sounds good.
