Just wrote and recorded this one tonight. Pretty funny lyrics, lol…I’m sure some will appreciate it!

Mix advice please!

Lyrics:

I Don’t Play Heavy Metal

I don’t play heavy metal
Oo wo oh
I just don’t think I am that cool
All the metal heads are wearing black
Oo wa aa
But I think that I would rather wear blue

They make horns with their fingers
And not one hand but two
I’d rather do the “I love you”

Their guitars are spikey
They might try to stab you

Just like when we were in high school
Oo wuh oo
Every day is Halloween
They Ride the Lightning too

Maybe someday I’ll join scene, Oo we ee
Where every day is Halloween, Oo we ee

Their guitars are spikey
They might try to stab you…

If I'm not reading the lyrics , I'm having a hard time understanding them. Maybe a little cut in the low mids and a mild boost around 1K would clear them up a little. That being said .. I got the satire(ish) humor and laughed every time I heard "they might try to stab you" line. 😁
PS - I would probaby try to play some heavy metal "if I could". ms

Haha, nice!
Thanks…I’ll see what I can do to clean that up. I appreciate the advice!

I think it’s pretty cool this one. Waiting for that little bit clearer vocal but good idea.

The vocals and especially bvs are back in the mix compared to the upfront drums. Do you want that?

I appreciate the comments. Good question. I think I learn toward a big sound over forward vocals. I didn’t even think about how loud the drums were until you mentioned it. But maybe I make that mix decision because drums don’t drown the vocals as much as guitars. If anything I want to turn the guitars up and boost their mids a bit, but then it will drown out the vocals even more. Is that bad? I don’t know.

Many of the songs I love are hard to understand but sound huge. Also, I don’t love my voice…so I’m usually pretty split on what to do about vocals and mixing/levels. Your comments really do help and get me thinking.

If I could sing like you I’d be cranking it up lol. Don’t be shy you have a great voice and style too.

I appreciate that. I’ve always thought that even if I don’t have a great voice “at least it sounds like me”. Also, I like Primus and Smashing Pumpkins…so that gave me confidence over the years! If they can do it so can I! Lol!

Really enjoyed the song. I thought the mix/arrangement was great, and your voice is perfect for the style of music.

Love it - and I think the vocal performance is great. You've got an excellent timbre for the genre. I do think the vox could be bumped up a bit, but other than that, no notes. Definitely sounds big!

Got a punky vibe, more than metal. Really like the vocal melody. Got no mix suggestions sorry, came through well on my speakers
