Reinstalling your OS????

Kaze, the problem is clearly that you don't have a clue what MIDI even is, don't have things hooked up properly or understand what you are trying to do with the elements you have.

MIDI cables to and from the MOTIF will not cause any audio to travel from the MOTIF to the computer.

Take a day or two and read some stuff about MIDI. Then go back and try again.

@ AlChuck
No i dont really understand midi... Its been explained to be before so i kind of get the idea of it... But yeah i'm re-installing my os so i can be sure its not the computer... Its been messin up lateley anyways.

@ moskus
Thanks for that link i will be useing that for sure :)

Reinstalling your OS just in case...

... is like removing your car's engine and replacing it because it won't move -- and all that's wrong is you don't know how to put it in gear. When all the headache and hassle is done -- it still won't drive until you know what the fuck you are doing, at least a little.

... but if he played the keyboard, had the MIDI Devices set up correctly, and connected the keyboard to the computer right, there's something fishy going on.

A reformat might be the easiest way to solve that.

And on the other hand: It might not....

Thats what i'm sayin after i reinsall my OS i think i'ma pay a guy from the music store come over and set this stuff up. I can have someone who actually knows this do it and i can watch and learn :) win win situation

moskus, if you read through his posts here in the is thread and in the other one or two related ones he started, it's pretty clear that he thinks MIDI messages are supposed to be carrying the audio data back and forth. It sounds like he isn't listening to the audio outs on the Motif.

Or since what you're trying to do is so damn easy, you can just read up on it and do it yourself. Also a win-win situation and very satisfying in the end...
But the point with the post above was to point out that I don't think you have connected everything correctly.

Let me give you some pointers if you didn't read my link.
  • Connect MIDI In on Motif to MIDI Out on PC, and vice versa
  • Start PA9
  • Select the Audiophile MIDI-driver in both the input and output.
  • Now when you play some notes, you should see the red lights lighting up on the icon I showed you before
  • And the SOUND will come from the Motif, NOT the computer.

This is the last tip... Now I'm running out of ideas...

AlChuck, yeah I know. I've read the other threads too....

That WAS true... lol

Alright guys its final... i am reinstalling the os tomorrow.. i have evreything i want to save backed up etc...

@Moskus
I did read that link and it was helpful thank you i d/led it.

@AlChuck and evreyone else, thank you for the help. I'll report back with the situation as soon as evreything is done on my pc. :)

You really are hell-bent for this reinstall thing... well, go for it, but I'll bet dollars to donuts you are wasting time and after the hours you spend on it, you'll be in the same situation, only more frustrated than ever...

In fact, you might very well be in worse shape depending on how you perform your re-install...

Why not get that music store guy to come over and scope out your problem before you do the OS re-install? (Though of course if he's like the majority of music store employees I've met in my lifetime, maybe that is a bad idea too...)

Well i am needing to reinstall my os anyways..

:( Mee too... on weekend.... :( Sometime when something's wrong with the registry/driver thingee, the shortcut way is to clean re-install the whole OS again... And this way has never failed :D

Three years now on Win 98SE and I never reinstalled, not once. Still works like a top... well, like a Microsoft top anyway. I almost don't want to move on to XP just to keep my record going here...

Chuck, I just got attacked by frickin' viruses... what can I say ? :o Thank God I still have many computers running, so I can move, scan & clean the infected HD in another PC... Just let it happened to me once, and don't let it happen to you. UPDATE VIRUS DATABASE, SCAN & CLEAN regularly. At least once in the week...

You mean you didn't do that, before the incident?

Tsk tsk tsk, James... :D

Exactly... I was a lazzy bug fugger by then... :D

Got dual OS here. WinXP & 98SE. The antivirus run on 98SE. It's rarely I "visited" the 98SE since I do all my work on WinXP. I'm behind firewall -which runs pretty good virus filter- anyway, so I thought I'm save. Well... I was not... :( The bad news continued. One of my newest HD developed bad sector after I re-installed those OS. Gee... 8 hours workin' on it, 8 hours reinstalling... what a wasting time... (except 8 hours on the BBS, it's fun...).

Have you tried M-Audio?

I have used the tech support before. They are not super fast, but definitely helpful. Send an email with all your details. When you get a note back, usually there will be a phone # for the person that responded.

I have limited experience with the computer recording stuff. I know it can be frustrating, but try to take baby steps in solving problems. Things like reinstalling the OS should be last resort type actions.

I got all bent out of shape when I first got my AP and I couldn't hear audio from the inputs. Turns out that I had to change one settting in the control panel.
