Pro Tools Ignoring Piano Mod Wheel

I have a Yamaha CP40 piano assigned to an instrument track running Native Instruments' Session Strings in Pro Tools. Everything's working fine except the modulation wheel... can't get it to do what it's supposed to do, pitch-bend, in this case. When I plug my headphones direct into the CP40, the wheel is functional, so it's something I need to do in my track setup. I've tried assigning the Mod Wheel controller to an automation lane set at 127, but can't get to to work. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help.

You might need to tell the piano to transmit it.
Look in the piano manual, or the setup options.

Has pro tools ever responded to picth bend from any midi device? There is a MIDI filter feature that filters out pitchbend and other continuous controllers, or just certain ones. The other thing is to look at the MIDI data and see if there are pitchbend and mod controllers mingled in with the note data? If they are there, then the session strings might be ignoring it. Check the other vst instruments you have and see if they react?
