Well, I jumped into the deep edge, or should I say, got pushed. Yes, Got Pushed is more accurate.

Anyway, I was given an x32 compact, a stage box and cat5 cable.

So far I have no idea of what I’m doing coming from analog mixers.
Right now I’m in process of building a room for the studio. So it’s gonna stay boxed up for a bit.

I’m gonna have to do some studying. So far from what I’ve seen this is primarily a live sound mixer rather than a digital recording mixer. Is that true?

What are some of you guy’s experiences with this machine? They seem pretty popular.

That's kinda fun! Nice gift. I've been considering an x32 - as you said they're very popular. I've seen enough to know that is a snazzy, useful piece of gear.

So - are you building a stand alone structure? A room addition? Can you elaborate on that? I'm curious.

It’s a digital console - everything you need is on board - just have to learn the workflow - it’s not. a bad mixer. to get your feet wet - one thing it’s not as complicated as you think - and when you learn it you’ll never know how you got along without them.

I wish I could elaborate but I don’t know enough about it yet to have an intelligent conversation. :D

As to standalone….. it seems like you can get a stereo mix on an SD card like a modern version of getting a cassette tape from the sound guy running your show.
Be nice, buy him a beer, give him a cassette or a dat tape and hope he’s a good live mixer. :D

But other that that I don’t see how it could be stand alone for recording.

Got a bit to learn

Sorry - miscommunication. I read this ^^^ and was under the impression that you might be embarking on a construction project to house a recording/studio area. Did I misunderstand? Those types of projects are interesting to me.

Yes. Just basically dividing my garage in
half to get a 18x14 dedicated room for recording.

Sorry no progress pics, when done probably, but not right now.

The X32 also has a built-in USB recording feature. It supports 16-bit WAV files and will playback/record at the X32’s sample rate. Make sure to format the USB drive FAT (FAT32) with a PC or Mac before using it for recording or playback. Most new USB drives will work, but not all are built for audio read/write speeds, so test recording and playback to make sure it works.

Thanks

Those features and many more are in the Manual and Tutuorials on YouTube BTW.
I’ve been checking out some videos. I don’t have a manual and I’m looking into getting a hard copy

But I thank you and all others offering their input and experience.

Brother the x32 is more than you will ever need and that's a good thing. I have the xr18 ...like you I am in the process of converting a non drywalled 20 x 20 jam room into a sound proofed recording / jam room...Pretty excited. Learned a ton about sound proofing.

With regard to using the thing it is powerful ...Chat GTP and Gemini can walk you through getting it up and running with whichever daw you choose to use.... I'm moving from Reaper to Logic Pro once I get the new Mac mini m4 up and running....

For me the xr18 and the flow 8 are the 2 interfaces I will use with the flow 8 being my solo interface...

Your x32 is both a 32 x 32 interface and a really nice control surface. Once you are able to get audio tracked you should have a blast.

Rock on!
