Amp making odd nosie...

The fact that it does this on a particular note makes me think that is all it is it will usually do it on the next octave as well.

But if you need to probe inside I'll call 911 for you if we don't hear back from you before the day is done :D

Yeah, for sure if its already opened up go ahead and check that all the speaker screws are tight. It will take a bit as its a closed back cabinet though.

I still have the sound so I'll tighten the speaker screws next time I open it up - probably tomorrow. I think EZs prediction is quite possible so I'm wondering: should I wedge some paper between the wire and the tube?

Paper, being flammable, probably isn't a good idea. See if you can bend the wire so it won't rattle.

If you put paper beside a tube, your amp will go on fire.
 
What is blue tac?

Tubes get very hot and need some ventilation. Putting anything in contact with the tube isn't a great idea. (except, of course, the things that were designed to hold them in)

If you don't move the amp much, you could just take it off.
 
Blue tac is like....a resin type putty, use it for putting up pictures and notices etc.
 
While cool, remove the tube without touching it. Use a latex glove or a towel or something. I don't really want to get into the debate about if that is necessary or not, so just do it.

After the tube is out, bend the wires inward. Slide the tube back into place.
 
Do tubes pop out in the same way as a light bulb or some such? And I wont get shocked from it right?

Do you guys think it odd that it vibrates when I play a C? I thought that was a bit weird.

Tubes are just pushed into a socket. They're not threaded in like a lightbulb.

Unplug the amp and pull the tube out when it's cool.

Okay Paul, this is very important! In the picture below there is a jpeg of the tube you have in you're amp.

On the bottom is a circle of pins that will be inserted into the tube socket.

There is one pin that is left off so that it can only go in one way---The correct way!

Be sure that the tube goes in this way or the tube can be damaged-just observe this and you will be fine!! ;)

C just happens to be the resonant frequency of something in the amp. Everything has a resonant frequency.

The Blue Tac would probably melt and/or catch on fire. Hint: if you wouldn't put it on a light bulb, don't put it on a tube.
 
Might just see if I can unclip the wire...the amp oonly ever moves about 20 feet from my bedroom to my recording room.
 
well at least try unhooking the wire .... at least you'll know if that's it.
I don't think paper orblue tack would ignite ..... the Mythbusters did a thing on that andbulbs don't get hot enough to ignite paper.
BUT ....you could get some fire proof stuff at an auto zone that is meantto be around exhaust pipes which get much hoter so you'd be definitely safe if you used something like that to damp a vibration.
 
I've ignited paper on a lightbulb. The tube should be reasonably ventilated.
 
I clipped the retsraining wire, am gonna test it in a few minutes. Need to charge up the electric screwdriver before i can put it all back together.

Try a manual screwdriver.
 
It's all done, but the noise is still there. This is annoying me, I can't tell if it's a noise coming from the room or from the guitar...bah.
