Part Two: Adding guitars to the mix.

Definitely a cool track...but the drums seem too mushy/robotic. The overall mix sounds good...the hi hats and ride are really coming through, you may want to turn them down to make sure we can hear the guitar (which is supposed to be the star of the song, yeah?) Good tune man!

    Down The Drain

This is a great song. Great execution, fantastic mix. I love the hook. Overall, I think this is great, and I really enjoyed it.

    Compression

I've had similar issues. What i usually do is once the tracks are mixed to a single file, I boost them by 6db. It brings everything up without killing the clipping. You can also download some free compression tools, and they usually have settings for "mixdown" or "premastering". You can select...

    Media Girls

Howdy Folks...it's been a few years since I last posted on this board. It's been about that long since I've done a song, and it seems like life just keeps getting in the way. Anyway, I recorded this song but need help figuring out how to make the vocals fit, they just aren't. Any help would be...

    I am a convert

Oh, and about the rockwool. I posted this in the official "where do you get insulation" thread, but I got it from SPI in Hurst, TX. They hooked me up with Rockwool (2 inch) at .47 per square foot, sold in 8 2x4foot panel bundles. SPI is all over the place, and they sell to the public no...

    I am a convert

My previous mixes were always either too bassy or too present or too this or too that. My set up used to consist of mixing on bookshelves, then listening on my home theater, my laptop computer, a mono shit speaker, my car, and my headphones (ipod and sonys). Now, obviously, I start with the...

    I am a convert

I just wanted to say... Spend more on monitors and room treatment. My mixes are night and day now. I spent $60 on fiberglass for room treatment and $200 for a pair of EMU PM5s (they were on sale from GC). I couldn't have bought a decent microphone for that. But the sounds I am getting are so...

    Beginner Monitors

condensed fiberglass info/where to buy thread

For the DFW area, I found a great deal on 2" Rockwool. It came out to just under .48 per square foot. I got 2 packs (128 square feet, or 16 2x4 boards) for just over $60. Awesome stuff. Place is SPI located at 6504 Midway Rd, Fort Worth, 76117 - (817) 831-4502. They sell all sorts of...

    Short Intro

I was listening today, and thought that might be the case. However, when listened to at lower levels, it seems to sound pretty good. That seems to happen to all my mixes. At low volumes they sound great, but once I turn them up, the whole mid range melds together and becomes harsh. Any ideas on...

    Short Intro

Thanks for the feedback. There probably won't be any more to the song, as this is only going to be used for a podcast intro. Anyone else?

    Short Intro

Hey guys, I've recorded an intro for my podcast. www.soundclick.com/seanscogin The song is the first called adblog intro. Can you guys check it out and see what it needs? i have mixed to perfection on my speakers, but they aren't monitors. I've exhausted all my headphones, and it sounds...

Choosing a guitar to get for my birthday

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Schecter guitars are awesome. I bought the Gryphon from Guitar Center. They usually go for 399, but you can get the "good guy" price down to 349 (just tell them it's your birthday). The cool thing about that guitar is that its got a pull knob that...

    Share a songwriting tip/trick/technique.

A note on rhyming software... Sometimes, when I'm writing (I write advertising as well), it helps to see a list of rhymes. If I'm thinking of one specific way to say something, I can go to rhyming software (there are a few free ones) and it may open up a whole different direction than what I...

Pop punk song. Please give some critiques.

The recording sounds really good. I agree that the bass seems nonexistant. Great mix, just define the bass a little more.
