I just moved into a rented flat a few months ago, its a two bedroom so the spare room is a dedicated studio.
Unfortunately, its sounds god damn horrifically horrifyingly bad! Ive been using headphones since I moved in, its just unusable.
The bass is just a boomy mess frankly, it overwhelms...
So ive just moved house and set up all my gear, I turned on my DAW for the first time and it made that wooshy burn out sound and emiitted a burnt smell. It didnt seem to distract the computer, the normal startup procceedure still came up on both screens, I turned it off pretty quickly however...
Im just about to build a new PC (and run my old one as a slave) and it was brought to my attention that maybe i should upgrade my soundcard as well.
Im using a Delta 44/Omni Studio at the moment. The thing is, im barely doing any live source recording, most of my work is done in the computer...
At the moment, im running an old socket 754 AMD64 3400+ 2gig RAM system and need to build a new one. My plan is to build the new system and use my current system as a slave.

Say i am writing a piece in my host using only one softsynth VST, does the softsynth control the bit rate of the output audio material its sending to the host and therefore render my hosts bit rate inconsequential?
Or does it still depend on what my hosts bit rate is set at?

Im just finishing up writing my first whole electronica piece and was wondering if anyone had any tips on mixing the thing?
At the moment its just a whole bunch of vst's through Cubase.
Should i adjust all the levels of the tracks so they arn't clipping on the vst outputs or anything...
If i put my computer onto stand by and then take it off and try to load up a project in Cubase or load a sample in a standalone player, everything jams up and i have to hit the restart button.
anyone know why this is?
