Rented flat - sounds awful - help!

I just moved into a rented flat a few months ago, its a two bedroom so the spare room is a dedicated studio. Unfortunately, its sounds god damn horrifically horrifyingly bad! Ive been using headphones since I moved in, its just unusable. The bass is just a boomy mess frankly, it overwhelms...

Something just burnt out, not sure what

Back online for the weekend. I took the PCI boards out and inspected them along with the motherboard, couldn't see anything out of the ordinary so I decided to put them back in and boot up. It powered up and proceeded to the normal motherboard logo initializing screen thing - then came the...

So ive just moved house and set up all my gear, I turned on my DAW for the first time and it made that wooshy burn out sound and emiitted a burnt smell. Is there any point in upgrading my soundcard?

Im just about to build a new PC (and run my old one as a slave) and it was brought to my attention that maybe i should upgrade my soundcard as well. Im using a Delta 44/Omni Studio at the moment. The thing is, im barely doing any live source recording, most of my work is done in the computer...

New System Build (opinions and queries?)

Ive used only crucial memory in my systems so far and had no probs with it, good brand, figured id stick with it. You dont rate it? Intel because the Q6600 is way ahead of the AMD range at the moment, price and performance wise. As much as it pains me to say that, i was an AMD guy.:) At the...

New System Build (opinions and queries?)

I do a lot of Orchestral stuff which means utilizing all available memory, so i will be using the 3gb switch if im running in 32bit. No point in not getting 4 gigs for me.

New System Build (opinions and queries?)

At the moment, im running an old socket 754 AMD64 3400+ 2gig RAM system and need to build a new one. My plan is to build the new system and use my current system as a slave. Antec Sonata Designer - With 500W EarthWatts PSU - £76 ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP AiLifestyle Series P35 Socket 775 Socket...

    Multiband Compression

Just sneakily turn up the volume before you play it back to them, that makes it louder.

    Need a new Motherboard/CPU

    Need a new Motherboard/CPU

Damn, i liked AMD. :( Thanks, interesting read. I take it all my DDR2 ram would be rendered useless with the X38? I dont actually see the Intel DP35DP on Ebuyer who are maybe the biggest components site in the uk, wonder why they dont have it. Still, it seems like the better option price...

    Need a new Motherboard/CPU

I was under the impression that they were waiting to release the "barcelona" quad core, which would be their first foray into that market. Have i missed something?

Bit rate if using only a softsynth?

Yeah, sample rate goes up to 176400hz :D and just zero mention of bit depth in the manual, program, that i can see anyway. That would indicate to me that it doesn't matter, but i dont really understand that, if anyone would care to explain?

Bit rate if using only a softsynth?

Mainly Reaktor 5. I cant seem to find any mention of bit depth (youve reminded me its depth. not rate :) ). You can change the sample rate though.

Bit rate if using only a softsynth?

Say i am writing a piece in my host using only one softsynth VST, does the softsynth control the bit rate of the output audio material its sending to the host and therefore render my hosts bit rate inconsequential? Or does it still depend on what my hosts bit rate is set at? Cheers

    Need a new Motherboard/CPU

Linear Inflation - new electronic piece

heh :D Guessing you haven't listened to much IDM/glitch music! Thanks for taking the time to listen to something out of your norm though. I dabbled around with a snare while writing, I just didn't think it fitted too well, apart from the bass/glitch bit before the big breakdown. So the main...

    the TIME is magic (instrumental)

Just playing "Take it All" now by mistake, this is pretty sweet! Kinda Steve Vai "sex and religion" feel i think, which is good! Mix sounds really nice and warm on my Phones, nice bottom end, great guitar tones electric and acoustic, although perhaps the electric tones are a bit muffled on...
