Tad, all these tones sound great. There's nothing to complain about on any of them, nothing overly harsh or nasty.
That Fender must have been fucking loud in the room.
Yeah, the Deluxe Reverb is right at the point of discomfort when it's in its sweet spot. Not unbearable, but I wouldn't want to listen to it at that volume for an extended time.
The Marshall, however, was deafening on all of those clips. The DR is 22W, the Marshall is 50W, which is only double power. I think that only comes out to maybe +3dB in total volume. I think the difference is the overall speaker surface area. The DR is a 1x12, which would mean that it has about 113 inches of total speaker surface area pushing air. The JCM is going through a 4x10, which totals 314 inches of total speaker surface. That's a lot of air being moved, almost 3 times more than the 1x12.
At least that's how I see it. I could be wrong.
Tad, I like the Jazzmaster & Fender Deluxe best. I didn't like the high input at all.
Thanks Ray. I understand, I didn't like the hi input at first either. And I'm still probably not using it to its fullest potential.
I wouldn't worry about it. Little things like that add character to a mix IMO. Or you could do it The Clash style - Fender/Fender in the middle, LP/Marshalls on the edges. Massive sounds.
Sounds like a good idea. Actually, I think I've done something similar in a couple of mixes...a couple of LP/Marshalls panned wide, and a couple of JM/DR panned narrow.
