The New Tone Thread

I know what you're getting at now as it just popped up in my YouTube feed and I'm listening to it.

Its actually a very interesting way of getting a new guitar as I am still after one more; I've made friends with my Ibanez and Washburn again though so its slipped down into third place behind a new cab and new head.

The other problem with it is the leave from work - its a certainly a strange way to take leave from the office.

I've been thinking about what I'd build, and I think we've talked about this before, I'm just not into super-personal specs, so it'd be pretty basic. I really think I'd build another Mosrite clone, like my 60 Custom. A Mosrite built like a Les Paul. I love LPs and SGs, but Mosrites are by far to me the sexiest shape there is, and they're very easy to play. But this one would have no tremolo or zero-fret. It'd have a regular ol stopbar/tune-o-matic and bone nut. Single humbucker and a volume knob. That's it. I'd put some wild ass 70s speed-boat sparkle paint on it.

Aside from the fancy neck-through on mine its actually a similar idea - I like the sound of heavy, dense guitars with humbuckers and wanted a tune-o-matic... but I like the shape and control layout of a tele.

So, what you're saying is that you'd like a Kurt Cobain guitar?

You should come over and spend a quiet holiday in rural Dorset, Greg. There's literally fuck all down there except for cows, pies and craft beer.

Maybe. I like surf style offset bodies. But not pawn shop cheapos only bought to be smashed.

I like cows, I love pie. Although you guys eat shit like blood meat pies and lamb's dick pies and stuff. I'll pass on that. Give me a cherry or peach pie and I'm good. Do yall have key-lime pie? My favorite. The beer...it's all the same to me. I'm very much not a "craft beer" hipster.

No, they're called cakes or tarts. Our pies generally contain dead creatures and vegetables... steak and kidney, rabbit, duck, deer all that sort of shit and it tastes amazing... along with "Scotch Eggs"

No I'm not eating any of that. Lol. You got any fried chicken?

Oh no, KFC sucks. I guess I'll just eat fish and chips or blood spotted dick.

I've just been to the bakery to get a pasty. This is a pie: 20160823_124853.webp

Does that say "Pasty Cheese & Veg"? Pasty? Lol. How appetizing! Is it called a pasty, or is it....pasty?

That's a cheese and veg filled "pasty" its pronounced "pass-tea" I had a chicken and veg pasty for lunch.

Ah, so it's not like "paste"? That's good. Food being pasty is not very appealing.

Oh, fuck no! Its basically a load of stuff, traditionally beef, swede, potato, carrot and onion, wrapped in a piece of pastry, crimped at the edge to form a big crust and stuck in the oven for a while.

They originated in Cornwall, the idea being that tin miners could hold onto the thick crust, eat their lunch and throw the crust away so they wouldn't be getting loads of nasty chemicals from tin mining all over their food.

Fucking hell, someone post a tone before Greg completely loses his fucking mind!

Lol. I'm posting some tonez today. Gonna move a cab out to the entryway and do some huge room miking. Maybe. If I get around to it.

Now I've made friends with my Washburn again I'm gonna re-string it along with my Crimson and post up some tone comparisons of my Crimson, Ibanez and Washburn. I need to do some double tracking, possibly this weekend, on another old song of mine that I want to finish so it'll be a convenient time to do it.

That'll be an interesting tone comparison.

LOL you guys crack me up.

Over here, we'd call those pot pies. Marie Calendar makes them frozen. You put one in the oven for about 6 weeks and it'll finally get hot enough to eat. You really have to plan ahead when heating one of those things up. You may not be hungry now, but who knows how hungry you'll be in 75 minutes? Might as well toss one in the oven just to be safe.

I recorded a few guitar parts over the last couple of nights. I'll have to render bits and pieces of them and post them up tonight. Jazzmaster through the DR custom channel, and the LP through the JCM800 hi input. Oh, and a few lead tracks with the LP/Fuzz/JCM800 lo input. Those are all just such satisfying noises to make.

They'll be interesting tones.. and in case you were interested, this is a scotch egg:

Lol right? Pot pies are good, but they take a fucking long time to cook, and there's no just-right time to cook. It either comes out still cold in the middle, or it's hotter than lava and you gotta wait another 20 minutes to let it cool so you can eat it without doing permanent mouth damage.
