I guess this one was 1989 or so. This is my old band. We mostly did 3 or 4 chord rock. We were all gathered in a room and recorded this live through a 14bit Sony F1 PCM A/D converter to Sony BETA tape. We were all excited because we were 'going digital' for the highest fidelity possible lol.

I played with a few different drummers over the years, and Mark was HANDS DOWN the busiest rock drummer I have ever met in my life. It used to make my head spin and still does - this is one of his tamer performances. I was playing my old tele through a carvin, Jim was playing a ric through a twin and the bass player was playing a nice natural american Pbass that was later stolen after a gig :-( The rythm guitars are criminally low and I could go back in time and shoot myself for that. This is one of the few times that I was given the latitude to play a 'solo' and still wish I hadn't.

I transferred into my daw, played with the EQ and bumped the overall levels up. Converted to 128kb mp3 for maximum fidelity haha...

Cool tune dawg. It sounds good. The solo was KILLER bro lol

This is really cool again Chuck - good energy, nice separation in the mix. I like the bass sound a lot. Nice work :)

Thanks! As much as I loved my 4track I think I liked live 2 track better. We were able to do a C-30 cassette full of tunes in about 4 hours. The best part - NO ENDLESS MESSING WITH THE MIX :-)

Nice work - sometimes simplest is best isn't it?
I wouldn't say the rhythms were criminally low just in need of a nudge really.
The band displays commendable discipline in not all playing louder than everyone else - most bands I've been in couldn't help themselves (me included - trble cranked, amp cranked & still broke bass strings trying to be heard).

Hey Ray - thanks for listening! The ric/twin rhythm guitar on the left is the one I think is too low. I always thought it was a really nice part and I can barely hear it. I agree the tele probably just needed a nudge. It's funny re - consideration. When I was going on memory over the years, my opinion of us was always that we were a 'hot mess' - sloppy, timing problems, bad levels, poor playing, etc. When I transferred this tape a few years back it was an eye opener. It just wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered and doesn't have alot of the problems I 'remember' us having. I normally have the exact OPPOSITE reaction to old tapes :-) One thing missing from these recordings is our horn section - we actually had a decent 4 piece of recruits from the college Jazz band.

Wow. This really sounds nice. I don't know why I keep getting surprised by these retro submissions of yours, but for 1989, that is pretty slick.

Love the guitar tones on this.

It has a lot of the good things about a live recording without many of the problems typically associated with them.

Thanks for checking it out heat. You got anything new in the pipeline? I'm playing with gear now getting together bass, drum and guitar tones and practicing gearing up for new stuff now that my plate is clear.

I was glad to. A really good listen.

Yes, I am chipping away at a "song" here and there. Messing around with drums mostly and once I got a sound I liked, I felt compelled to add other stuff and it is gradually forming into, uh...something. Kind of a backwards way to create a tune. The lyrics are offensive though. Not sure I will post it here?

That's a VERY good recording. And a pretty cool tune for sure. The bass does sound good. Lots of wool but still clear. When I listen to my old stuff, it's every bit as bad as I remembered.
